Default Gore launches $300 million campaign

Former Vice President Al Gore is launching a $300 million, bipartisan campaign to try to push climate change higher on the nation’s political agenda.

The three-year campaign by the Alliance for Climate Protection will begin Wednesday with network television advertising that will include “American Idol” and other non-traditional shows that reach a non-news audience.

The debut ad, "Anthem," is posted here.

Pat Robertson and Al Sharpton just filmed an ad for the We Campaign, sitting on a couch on the beach. In the ad, now being produced, they say that while they may not agree on many things, they do agree that they have to work to save the planet.

A future couple in the “strange bedfellows” or "unlikely alliances” spots will be recorded soon: Democratic House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Republican former House Speaker Newt Gingrich.

How about 300 million to help families make their homes more energy efficent thru low coast loans/grants...you know things that would actually create change instead of 300million spent to talk about change. But what do I know Im not Al Gore so I suppose paying for ads during American Idol with famous people is a better way to solve the problem. 10 million email addresses great now I can look forward to Al Gore email spam.

Whats your point? The amount of money spent on political campaigns is obscene as well but it in the case of Gore he preaches something has the means to bring about some actual change but instead wants to blow it on tv spots on American Idol But yes discounting big cat corporate money people who donate are doing so to bring about change indirectly, aka they hope Obama or Mccain or whoever will bring about change for the better.

So people giving money to Gore to raise awareness and help research global warming etc. do not want change?

By the way it says the spending includes but is not restricted to adverts.

What research? Sorry but Ive seen very little from Gore beyond movies, live events and tv spots. Hell his own home uses 20x the electricty of average american and it was only after that little story leaked that he released a statement that he is in the process of converting his own home. Sorry but from environmental pov all Gore has done is talk, if Gore isnt even doing what he claims we all need to be doing by jet setting across the planet, burning up more energy then probably everyone who has posted in this thread I fail to see how "oh he is raising awareness" is actually productive.

By the way it says the spending includes but is not restricted to adverts.
Yes but it is what it focused on exclusively which leads onto to believe that is the primary focus. See Im not arguing that environmental issues arent a concern and Im not even arguing that its clear we need to do something what Im arguing is the cheerleader effect Gore has aquired when he has actually produced very little except a poor movie and energy wasting concerts.

In a world when three trillion dollars can be spent funding an illegal (enough) war, I don't see a tiny bit why you should moan about this - at least he's trying to help the world. Hell, football players get paid millions, you should go after them and a thousand others before this.
Sure as soon of one of them attempt to appoint themself the expert on the topic and start preaching to others what they need to be doing Ill do that. Gore has put himself in the position as a spokesperson for the enviroment and other then producing a group of whackos supporters who think "enviromental denial" should be illegal and face possible prison or fines...he has done very little except raise and spend alot of money.

He's trying to mobilize people to start working on the problem. The Climate issue has slipped from many people's minds lately, and if he can use ads to bring people together to work on it, good for him.

And what better way to get people to work on the problem then to actually address the problem and show the benfit? Im sorry but Im always cynical of these "awareness" campaigns that spend insane amount of money that doesnt actually improve the situtation. Plus considering the climate (political, economic one ), gas prices are thru the roof, economy is approaching a recession, credit crunch is being felt you actually think most people are going to put stock in "well you have to sacrifice" for the environment? My guess is the vast majority of people will go yeah we gotta do something about it but right now I gotta make my mortage payment....

Exactly. We just looked into an alternative electricity supplier (claiming to have an environmentally safer way of producing electric current) and we saved a whole bunch of 1 cent. Not kidding! Anyway we switched on just trying to give a hand by using their services.

Also, if you look at the "become CO2 Free" (especially commercialized by Gore's Website) it is only the wealthiest people who can afford it.

Anyway, if Al Gore really wants to make a dent on global warming (or cooling), he should be going after the special interest groups. I can watch the "Inconvenient Truth" a 1000 times and yet I still have to pump the same gas into the same car and I still have to buy the same heating oil.

I can go and join the usual protests with the green-movements, the only benefit I can get out of those is to maybe meet a hot chick, but these so called green-tree hugging protests has shown, it makes (made) no progress whatsoever.

There is this rich family I know (trust me, very rich) and trying to give a shot to alternative energy, they planned to put a wind turbine up on their land. They couldn't do it. It costs over 300,000 dollars !

Perhaps people are starting to notice that it is actually getting colder.
I live in winnipeg, Canada, a very cold place that has been getting progressively much warmer.

Let's just hope they were fascist communist kittens who were on their way to international fascist communist fair.

Look charlatans and crooks uniting to save the planet. How promising.

But, as always, the planet isn't going anywhere: we are. Earth has been through much worse than us.

Shame that. I've encountered the same sort of situation down here myself.

Because charities won't be doing anything for *them*. They'll be doing things for *others*.

Gore is an out and out idiot.
Sure I've been called a xenophobe, but the truth is Im not. I honestly feel that America is the best country and all other countries aren't as good. That used to be called patriotism.

I think there is a bigger agenda in this global warming thing. If he was really dedicated to making the world cleaner he would use that 300m to fund the cleaning of a major river or buy eco-friendly lighting for a Stadium or something.

As a teenager, I was taken to various houses and flats above takeaways in the north of England, to be beaten, tortured and raped over 100 times. I was called a “white slag” and “white ****” as they beat me.
