So I bought the Osprey book on the Agincourt Campaign, which is number 9 of the Osprey campaign books written by Matthew Bennett, and it has a paragraph about crossbow men.
On page 28 it describes crossbow men trained in the art of "Falling fire"
its exact words are "Although it could be shot on a flat trajectory, crossbowmen also used high, falling fire to pierce helmets and shoulder armor"
If this book is right, then this means that by the 1400's crossbow men did in fact shoot their bows upwards so the bolts would fall on enemies.
I would scan it but my scanner is FBAR'ed right now.
Thoughts?
EDIT: 600'th post, Yay!
