Default Balian of Ibelin is dead. Good.

I would like to thank the creators of BC for this wonderful opportunity of revenge.

I lost almost three hours of my life watching the antics of this non-actor destroying what could be a (flawed but) enjoyable movie.

Last night it was finally payback time. I was besieging Antioch and then I noticed who was the "family member" of KoJ. After I massacred everything on the walls, I surrounded the city square with two units of Varangians and two of Royal Kataphractoi. Needless to say...

Then I played the battle again.

Hehe, I still remember my very first battle with BC.
I intercepted a small Ayyubid force with Balian and his troops. Because there were so few enemies I just charged them with my infantry while Balian and his BG's were preparing to flank. When the two infantry forces met I send in Balian.
1 friggin' second later, no more Balian. The guy get's mowed down by a lowly spearman.

I was like: WTF? That pussy-ass, ing of an Orlando Bloom! He completely wussed out! The guy can't even pretend to be a good general in a computer game!
the worst part is, he was the only casualty from his unit!
Some day I'll actually write all the reviews I keep promising...

He should have the trait 'Orlando Bloom' - Your feminine air make you a ripe target on the battlefield. (-8 hp)

The historical Balian was a tough and brave sob. A guy like Liam Neeson would have been better suited for a part like that, instead of Orlando.

Plus he was a tall dude:

It was Balian himself - a notably tall man - who carried the child Baldwin V on his shoulder at the ceremony, signifying the support of Isabella's family for her nephew. Soon after, the 8-year old boy became sole king.

Can you imagine, a somewhat more realistic Kingdom of Heaven with Liam Neeson as lead and without the lame romance?
Make it grim and bloody and you'd have one hell of a film.

Funny, that Balian is my faction leader now.

When I came up with my whole "Russian" theme (for reasons beyond understanding) of course I used my favourite movie...but I could not find any quotes in Russian, so I added a verse from the Soviet National anthem, which is ironic considering the trouble Тарко́вский had with the Soviet bureaucracy.
At some point he had to answer to the question: Is the spaceship crew comprised of real socialists?..in order to get the go-ahead for Solaris..

Sorry BC guys for the off topic (must find something on-topic now)...erm..

Ah, could you please make a unit comprised only of Balian(s) of Ibelin? And is there a way to make the unit stare apathetically at the rt camera whatever happens around?

I would like to be able to kill some Balians in every battle....

And is he walking around in a speedo?..

But using the quote from Luc's Emaus Pilgrims or John's Revelations is quite easy to find in rusian and cyrillic, and are also quite intense sequences of the movie.

Sadly such a unit would be clones of Balian.

Here's how you can do it yourself, though.

Replace the armour_ug_models and soldier entry of any particular EDU unit with: christian_general

Seriously commenting on that movie. Orlando Bloom just sucks as an actor. He is incapable of any kind of acting other than as a never-scared sidekick. His amazed face is "man that was surprising but I'm gonna slice it up". His scared face, oh yeah, he never uses one because they fit the character to him to make sure his character is never scared. His happy face is his regular face with a mouth smile, no eyes. His heroic but reckless face is also nonexistant, its just heroic. HOW CAN YOU MAKE ORLANDO BLOOM'S CHARACTER HAVE ANY DEPTH WHEN HE CAN'T EVEN DO A SCARED FACE, DAMMIT?!

For me what really angered me about it was how much of a Messianic figure he was made out to be. I'm told the extended edition sheds some light so he is less of a 'mary sue' kind of hero, but apparently the extended edition even has a god damn burning bush. He was made out to be far too much of a hero whom it all rested upon, probably even less than Leonidas was made to be in 300.

As many would probably agree, Jeremy Irons (Tiberias) or Liam Neeson (Godfrey) would have been a far better choice for Balian. In fact aside of Balian, Reynald de chatillon, and perhaps Guy de lusignan, most other actors and actresses were a great choice.

The reason I included the latter two is that their approach (less so for Guy, unbelievably so for Reynald) was the same childishly shallow approach they had to Agamemnon and Menelaus in Troy - The fact that they were evil wasn't enough, but instead they had to be made into bumbling, gross looking oafs. Which is comical because if what I heard was right, Guy was basically Balian (a prettyboy that Sibylla fell for), and Reynald was commented as a handsome jackarse.

Which would have been fun to depict, rather than depicting the Templars (Another irony being a story from a Muslim scholar being that the Templars respected him more than a recent arrival did) in the same sort of approach the Persians got in 300.

I didn't mind the historical inaccuracies, though. Always hate when people think it's a bad movie because of that. I just hated Balian's actor and storytelling.

Well, I'm afraid I have to disagree with my patron on this one, I think Orlando is a cutey, who gives a damn about his acting ability?

However, I must confess to having felt quite sad when my ERE assault on an ex-Armenian castle caused the death of King Baldwin. He seemed such a decent chap in the film and I wish I could have given him safe passage to a retirement home, where he could have received proper medical attention.

Or maybe I'm taking things far too seriously - lol.

Hmm I liked Orlando Bloom as Balian. I did not see where his acting was bad at all. I also thought Kingdom of Heaven was a very good film, although it was a bit too biased towards the Muslim faith in some ways.

Saladin was not quite as honorable as they portrayed him to be in the movie. Although relatively speaking for those times he was more honorable than most.
