    Default BI.exe and RS question

    Hi,

Okay Ive been trying to understand how to run the BI.exe with RS but im afraid I am confused :-)

I have been playing RS with BI installed already as i have Rome Gold. But obviously i am playing through the RTW exe.

Is there a simple way to start using the Bi.exe without reinstalling everything?

I tried just running the bi.exe file but it doesnt even start up properly, just hangs on the first intro screen.

    Yeah...

Make a shortcut of the BI.exe (right click...create shortcut) and change the target to this:
(your Rome TWBI folder) \RomeTW-BI.exe -mod: -nm -show_err

    Hi Tone,

I've tried this and i get this message saying the specified target is not valid, make sure the path and filename are correct.

Im using Vista, could this be the problem?

Also my BI-TW.exe is in the same folder as RTW.exe, not in the BI folder.

    That's where it should be.
You basically want to make the target point directly at the RTW-BI.exe....or else you could right click on the BI.exe and add the extras on (most important is the -mod: addition. Sometimes you have to wrap the shortcut bit before the extras in inverted commas.

Thanks that seemed to do it with the inverted commas before the -mod..... part.

I just reconfigured the RS shorcut with the BI target. It seems to start now and loads the RS screen.

    One more question please:

Which preferences file do i need to change for my settings such as no banners etc....I seem to have a few of these preferences files and the changes i made when using the RTW.exe have not been kept when using the bi.exe for RS?

Or if you could answer this for me tone about the BI.exe. Which disk should be in the drive for this to work properly. I have my BI disk in but there is no campaign data when i load up. Just says select item from list.

The 'select item from a list' message indicates that you've not patched your RTW game correctly. It needs to be RTW 1.5 and RTW BI 1.6.

If unsure launch the games and see the version number on the top right hand side on the options menu.

Umm, simple question, why aren't you using the BI shortcut the installer put on your desktop?

After installing Rome TW, then BI. Patching RTW to 1.5.

Then i instal RS MOD. It put 2 shortcuts on my desktop. When i click the RS with BI shortcut it ask for correct disk.

I instert my BI disk then click the shortcut and it loads. But then there is no campaign info.

I'm trying to find out when its all working correctly should my Rome Disk be the one being read and the BI.exe is the one clicked.

If you have BI installed you do not patch to RTW 1.5 you patch to BI 1.6 instead, this is causing your problems.

    Okay its all working,

    Thanks for the help guys.

I've noticed the difference already. RS-BI AI appears quite a bit trickier and I like the little suprrise attacks out of nowhere :-)

I want to try BI.exe with RS. I want to see what the AI does.

I have Roma surrectum installed on a seprate folder. meaning I copied the RTW fodler and renamed it Roma Surrectum and installed it.

Now I have BI installed on my computer and can play it any time its patch to 1.6 by the way. How do I put in the BI.exe to Roma Surrectum?

I would of done what you guys already said in this thread but I think my case is a little differnet so yea.

    Thanks

Just copy the BI.exe into your RS folder...create a shortcut with the right stuff after it....play. It may call for the BI CD, not sure. Since I never played BI that much, when I install a copy of it, I just delete the BI folder and the exe runs RTW anyway....it HAS to because it can't find anything else to run.

Well I got it working. I now have this provincial campaign option in the menu. Is that normal cause now I can't use the imperial campaign one. It says please select item from the list.

Also I can have both RTW.exe and BI.exe in the same folder like this. Or do I have to delete the RTW.exe. Cause from what I can see. I can play both .exes without copying or doing anything else.
