just starting again
ok I haven't played this game since the year it was made. When I first played it I was stupid. not in military strategy or economy just stupid. example I just wanted to make a army out of the strongest legion I can before I conqoured the world. so I just sat there with 5 or so cities trying to slowly building.
after playing M2TW I figured it will take for forever for that to happen and developed new tactics for taking over the world. so i just wanted to ask which faction I should start out with as the romans and what good mods are there.

As for your faction of choice, just pick whoever you want to use.

Re: just starting again
Each faction has different temples and gladiators (Julii has the best gladiator, but worst temples, Brutii has the worst gladiator and middle temple, Scipii has the middle gladiator and best temples). Don't quote me on the gladiators, that's what I remember, I could be wrong.

Re: just starting again
Well this is what I think about Roman faction choices:
Julii: The easiest and the best to start of with. It gives you the Gauls to begin the fight with, which are quite easy to deal with, and as you play, you meet harder and stronger factions and you slowly gain experience with the game.
Brutii: Average difficulty. Dealing with the phalanxes is what you learn here, prepares you for further conquests in the east, many factions of which use phalanxes of some sort. However, doesn't give you too much cavalry experience.
Scipii: Probably the hardest one. Learn how to fight special units such as elephants and chariots, depending if you head south east or south west. Has a slightly more difficult start, but once you've made a good start, the rest doesn't seem as hard.

Re: just starting again
Each of the three Roman factions have different gladiators (Julii has Samnite Gladiators, Brutii has Velite Gladiators, I forgot what Scipii has). Also, if you play as the Scipii (blue guys), you can build Corvus Quinquireme and Decere ships if you build an Awesome Temple of Neptune and a Pantheon, respectively. I don't think they are too necessary but they are the best ships you can get in the game.

Re: just starting again
Scipii units are the best (or at least have the potential to be the best if you plan correctly). This is because the Scipii get the temples of Vulcan, which grant significant upgrades to most of your military units. In addition, the Scipii get an excellent naval unit (forgot name) which is significantly superior to every other Roman naval unit.
Romans are definitely the most robust military. And within the Roman ranks, in the hands of an experienced player, the Scipii military stands a head above the rest. The slight disadvantage the Scipii might have in starting position is more than made up for in the quality of their military.
Take the Carthage city on Sicily before the Brutii get to it; then sneak in and take your share of the rich Greek cities while the Greeks have their hands full with your fellow Romans (the Brutii).

Re: just starting again
Actually, I found when I first started the Brutii the hardest- that first battle with the greeks after you besiege their town below Apolliana was very hard for me.
Scipii's the most fun for me because you have the most oppertunities- from your starting place, you can either nick Sparta, take some Gaul settlements up north or go on to Carthage- all but a boat ride away.

So i read all the advice in this topic and it is really awesome. i'm bumping this back up for anyone elses openions on which they think is the best faction. I'm thinking of using the scipii from the advantages that they recieve but the brutii sound good too and im nto using the julii because liek someone said the ghaul cities suck majorly.

Re: just starting again
personally, i think macedon is a pretty great faction. they just have some absolutely awesome phalanx units and some okay cav to boot. but the romans are all really awesome as well later on cause of their absolutely awesome infantry.
