Guess nothing changes in the world when stuck with pressing domestic issues attempt to deflect anger at a foreign "enemy' rather then addressing ones internal's problems...its simply easier. I don't know a lot on South American history, so correct me if I'm wrong- but I'm pretty sure Argentina never actually owned the Falkland islands. AFAIK, they are making claims that Spain once [does?] had, and have been doing so since independence. Which, essentially, makes their claim totally illegitimate. The Falklands was a Colony of numerous powers, it switched constantly. Argentina the country never even owned it, and it is mostly populated by Scottish decedents.

If anyone has a claim on the Falklands, its Spain. At the least the nation actually bloody owned the land! But even that claim is loose, considering the Falkland islands were a colony. Which, to me, is a hell of a lot different than national territory...

the recent argentinian whining has been related more to the recent exploration of oil and gas reserves around the falklands - they feel they deserve it more than we do.. despite the fact that its not theirs.

You have it correct. When Argentina broke free from Spain, part of the deal involved the Falkland Islands. It didn't seem to matter that Spain did not own the Islands at that time. Stupid President...

Next, the Spanish will be wanting Gibraltar.
