    Hi all!

    I just come up with an idea to create "citizens" and non-citizens in RTW mod.

    It's simple: basically all of your people in the cities are citizens, in which you can recruit your units from (usually disciplined and well-armoured ones). They're very few in number - means 400 to a few thousands initially, so most of your soldiers would be mercenaries - which represent non-citizens, and the mercenary pool would be much larger and make one pool per city/region.

    Any comments on this?

    it's a very good way to make the AI deplete at lightning speed their pop :tacticalw
    with an EB-like script which restores AI pop might be a good idea, but you have to rework the entire economical system

    Woudln't AI use mercenaries instead if they're cheap enough??

    I don't think the AI is smart enough, if it has the money it will recruit mercs AND train troops in cities

    Hm I found the real problem - AI doesn't use mercenaries at all!

    I removed all merc/AOR units from barracks, and tested the campaign up to 7th year - no AI faction ever recruits any mercenary units even if they cost 0

    The AI does recruit mercs, but quite rarely, at least in BI 1.6.

    AI does recruit mercs, usually when swims in money

    I've had an almost bankrupt faction recruiting mercs just before engaging my army (which was quite superior to theirs), so perhaps there is some tiny fraction of intelligence in the behaviour of AI... Still, mercs are almost exclusively a player thing. If AI recruited them more often and disbanded them after a while, things would be better, but that's just wishful thinking.

    well at VH with EB ( = cash script) I usually see a lot of mercs in AI armies...sometimes they make up 50% of an army or more, so I presume there's also a link between AI wealth and merc hire.

    But are they recruited in buildings or recruited by the mercenary scroll??

    I'm speaking of normal mercs, not the AoR units that can be trained in cities

    Hmm weird, well I give up anyway because AI doesn't use mercs as expected
