    Hypocrisy(greek word)

people even here in twc accuse greece of being pathetic towards Fyrom as concerns the nato membership .

    but

    http://www.dw-world.de/dw/article/0,...200273,00.html

so think wich will cause more trouble

Georgia and Ukraine not entering nato or FYROM

is nt hypocritical that Merkel and Lisa said to greece Bad dog let FYRom down.

But if Greece was like Russia then Greeces stance wouldnt be pathetic.

    and a PM to Macedon
U see Macedon and others members of nato want to have good relation with RUSSIA.

Nato is like a select club... when did we start allowing rookies into this select club... why does a former soviet country that has had independence for less than two decades deserve to enter into this Western coalition. What is the exterior motive behind including Ukraine.

Then theres Georgia. Why do we need Georgia last time I checked they were closer to the Caspian sea then the Atlantic Ocean. Id rather include Russia which is far richer and more stable than Georgia is. Plus Russia is next to the Atlantic.

I vote for Russian Inclusion to the North Atlantic 'Trade' Organization.

You're way off in your geography mate.

Georgia is indeed closer to the Caspian than to the Atlantic, but its even closer to the Black Sea (adjacent, in fact).
And Russia is no closer to the Atlantic than Georgia or Ukraine (or FYRM for that matter) are...

And you're also way off in your political geography.
The whole point of NATO was to provide security from the percieved threat of the USSR, of which Russia is the direct successor state.
Including Russia is not only impossible in the foreseeable future - neither Russia or NATO want it - but would defeat the whole purpose of NATO.

Well, hmmm, don't really know what to say. I didn't really get your point with this thread, but you said it yourself: freaking out Greece is not the same thing as freaking out Russia.

And the situation is slightly different: Russia have all means to occupy both Georgia and Ukraine, while FYROM have no chances in the world to prevail over Greek army or occupy any part of Greece.

Not to mention that over half of the Ukranians don't approve NATO membership and Georgia is having problems with two non-recognized republics on its terretory.

That's my point... Who is being hypocritical against whom? Is it Russia or Germany and US?

I can see how US is being hypocritical but not Germany and Russia.

Russians wouldn't chase anyone across the border into a NATO state.

Ukraine is not a very stable country, first off they have two political fronts that are opposed in all too many key points, spliting the country in two, east voting for pro-Russian Region Party and west voting for Orange Coalition parties. Secondly the increased tartar unrest in Crimea.

Well whose to say Germany and Russia are being hypocritical their views are quite clear both don't want those to states to join Nato.

Russia is fiercely opposed to the eastward expansion of Nato.

Deputy Foreign Minister Grigory Karasin told a hearing of the lower house of the Russian parliament, the Duma, that Ukrainian membership of the Western alliance would "entail a deep crisis in Russian-Ukrainian relations".

He said Ukraine would become a buffer between Europe and Russia.
    http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/europe/7324035.stm

French Prime Minister Francois Fillon appeared to agree with the Russian assessment during a radio interview on Tuesday.

"We think that it is not a good answer to the balance of power within Europe and between Europe and Russia," he said.

    Over reacting there Jo?
They oppose the Ukraine and Georgia's bid becasue of their close affiliation with Russia and the complications that would ensue and political tension with Russia, however Greece opposes Macedonia simply because of their name.
