Battle Map - I want to see more!!!

Hi all,

Is there a way to increase the FOV on the battle map (actually on both the battle and campaign maps would be great.

It is a real pain to try and look up a steep hill at the enemy while trying to arrange my battle line.

I would like a nearly top down view at about 3 times the current maximum height.

I also noticed that there is entry in the preferences.txt file, but I haven't tried fiddling with it:

CAMERA_FOV:75.000000

Well i know if you change i to 65.000000 then you can zoom in more so maybe if you increase it you can zoom out more?

Havent tried it though so not sure if it will work

Well, I changes it to 95.00 and other than the Battle screen starting out much higher (it seemed to me) at the intro, I don't think it allows one to zoom out more.

Perhaps If I change it above 100?

EDIT: My bad. I edited the backup file. It does appear that editing this value gives me the expanded FOV I am after. I have tested a value of 85 and fought a battle with no ill effects (yet).

wait so you are saying that if you edit that number you can zoom in closer during campaign battles?

So I have tested a value of 110 and so far everything works and I have a view of the entire battlefield at one time, plus I can see the majority of the overall battle and with just a small bit of movement I can direct my calvary and I am not constantly trying to reposition the camera like a madman.

the only problem is the higher the number the more messed up the battle looks. i tried 150 and all my legions became stretch armstrong legions

Yes, it gives you a it more zoom onto units.
Movie cam is still the best however but you can use that only in replays

so i changed it to 110 right. so now when i start a battle i can see the whole battlefield. however, when i zoom in i cant zoom back out to the same level it was at the start. i can only zoom out to the normal level. any1 else have this issue.

Press pause and then try zoom out again, it should go back to the overhead whole battlefield view

Here you go.

This is a FOV value of 110. There is "lensing" or fisheye effect at the edges, but notice that I can see all of my 3700 troops at a single glance.

Note: Please don't ding my troop placement, I did this fast to show the effect - I didn't set up the line for battle.

I also tried this FOV value of 110 and didn't like it at all. Also I got my first CTD playing RS+Alex.exe after messing with the FOV value! I guess I'll try the zoom in effect.

Sgian Dubh u can zoom out waaay more than that if u use the first game camera view. if u press the "End" key u can get a full birds eye view of the battlefield on fov 110. i got rid of this tweak though because it gave me ctds after i finished a battle.
