    Default editing the EDB

What's the correct way to edit the EDB?

As 'England' faction, I wanted to make generals recuitable, so I added 'NE Bodyguard' to the 'stables' tree in the EDB and this worked fine.

But then I thought I'd like to make generals recruitable for other factions, and so I went back to the EDB and made the changes. But when I checked in the game, these changes did not show up.

And so I thought I'd like to change construction times for some buildings. I went back to the EDB and made the changes. But in the game these changes didn't show up either.

And then I thought I'd like to make Teutonic Knights recruitable for HRE in fortresses. I went back to the EDB and made the changes. But in the game nothing showed up - no Teutonic Knights.

And so I went back to the EDB and undid all my changes, fearing I may be storing up some terrible trouble.

But now I'm wondering: how come my English bodyguards showed up but nothing else did?

For future reference I'd like to know what I did wrong, and how I can effectively edit the EDB.

when you made the first change (English bodyguards), did you make the change and then started the game?

when you made the following changes, did you 'continue' the campaign? or start a new one? or did you restart the 'game'?

basically, did you have the game opened while making the changes?

Changes made to the EDB require you to restart the game.

    Hi Tsaries,

Thanks for the reply. Basically I kept quitting the game after making changes, then reloading it and starting a new campaign, sometimes as England, sometimes as HRE. I must have quit and reloaded 6 times but only the original England changes were in action. I'm not sure where that leaves me?

Id have to know what is was exactly that you changed to have an idea of what happened. Because if you were exiting the game, editing the EDB, then reloading the game, and starting a fresh campaign then i dont understand what it is that has gone awry.

I have edited the EDB in the same manner and never had any problems. It could be possible that you have the file set to read only and therefore your changes are not being made. or you forgot to save?, or the file was saved under a different name. as an example, i use notepad2, when i save a text file i need to save the file as .txt or it wont save as a txt file, but rather as .file. So it could possibly be an easy mistake...

but as i said, id have to know exactly what it is you did to have a proper understanding. sorry if i am unable to be of any assistance.

    Hi Tsarsies,

Thanks for this. Yes, I think you're right, I must have made some kind of mistake when I saved the file. Why I think this is because I re-edited the EDB very carefully, making sure to save the changes and paste the edited file back into the right folder. So far, on checking the game, the changes have appeared - a big relief! And so the original problem must have been human error. But thanks again for your help, as I wasn't sure what was going on.
