RTR failed to find DirectX 9 CTD issue

Was just enjoying a lovely game when RTR CTD'd as I attacked a rebel army near Rome.

I go to reload it, and it's just telling me after the splash screen: "RTR failed to find DirectX 9 which is required to play the game. Please install DirectX 9"

It's there. I'm looking at it. I imagine a restart fixes this, but how can I prevent it ahppening in the first place?

First thing to do would be to comply with the game's wishes. Try reinstalling your DX 9.0c
