Default Urban Police Force; What's Required?

Hey everyone. In the original RTW, 4 units of peasants, or Town Watch was all that was needed to keep folk under control, but I've just conquered all of Italy as Rome, and I'm finding it difficult to maintain order, and a positive income with every settlement under a governer and 4 units of hastati; as a result, my army upkeep is soaring through the roof. Any advice on what my police force should be? :hmmm:

You better destroy other cultuyre's buildings and buid your own temples and culture improvements . Thje cultural malus is very bad for the city's public order.

Local troops. For Italy I use Italian Swordsmen. They are much cheaper than Hastati. Also I don't think you should need 4 units for each garrison, usually I only have 1 + a governor.

If you are using the 4 turn per year mod, remember to send all your 16 year olds to Rome for training until they are 20 years old. This way they pick up a TON of good traits (mostly management and some influence more than others) as long as Rome is set on High taxes.

Hastati are for field armies, not garrisons; use the cheapest possible troops (slingers, javelineers etc) for city garrisons, the quality of the troops has no effect in the public order bonus, 100 triarii are as good as 100 slingers for that matter.

Thanks for your advice folks, I'll start switching the men out now.

Question. What 'foreign' buildings should I look out for?

You need to upgrade the government building as soon as possible to reduce culture penality. And you would also want to raze enemy barracks, and maybe bad temples (especially the temple of fun)

i would at first destroy their temples and other buildings what says that it's from another culture..

as example, if u take a city from the romans you will notice that after the name of almost all buildings stands (roman) destroy it and rebuild it and it will be of your own culture..
