Ok, i've been playing as the Turks for a while now, and really enjoying it, i love them. I have patch 1.3 installed, and i've noticed now that ever since installing, my archers automatically run away when approached by an enemy.
Admirable, or so i initially thought. I dont mind this behavior per se, but what i DO mind is that there doesnt appear to be a way to override it.
This is especially a problem when I'm using Ottoman Infantry, because they are a heavy infantry unit with 13 attack, 19 defense, and 9 ranged attack, namely a heavy knight with a bow, and they WONT STOP RUNNING AWAY!!!
I noticed this problem earlier when using afghani javeliners in a battle map, where i was attacked. the battle ended up lasting nearly 40 minutes because nothing I could do could stop them from running. Now with ottoman infantry its even worse.
I tried attacking an enemy army with an army comprised of at least half ottoman infantry. I lost HUUUUUUUUGE numbers from their cavalry just running my infantry down like grass, and NOTHING makes them stop running! I've tried turning melee on, i've tried turning fire at will off, i've tried SPAMMING the Hold button, and I've even tested this with other ranged units in custom battles.
I've tested this with javeliners, archers, arbesquers, ottoman infantry, janissary musketeers, just about every kind of ranged infantry, and always the same. THEY WILL NOT STAND THEIR GROUND OR ENGAGE IN MELEE! Now for most of them that's probably for the best, but for the heavy infantry THAT IS NOT GOOD! And against cavalry that is also not good! Running away from cavalry as infantry is pointless! The advisor even tells you this, if you're being charged, hold your ground to reduce casualties, so how the hell do I make them hold their ground now?
Does anyone know how to turn this behavior off? It is really starting to irritate the hell out of me. I had to stop playing the turks because i was gonna break my mouse.
