I noticed that the Mongol faction uses the same voice as the Islamic factions. However, in vanilla, mongol factions had their own asian voices. What happened to this? And is there any way I can modify the Mongol voices back to the originals?

You can, find the descr_unit_voices file (maybe export_descr_unit_voices)
Find Mongols and change the accent
(i think)
I couldn't find the file in there after some digging. Has anyone had experience with this sort of thing before?
Are you using Windows Vista? In which case, most M2TW-files (including mod files) are not in the normal "...\Program Files\SEGA\Medieval II Total War\"-folder.
The important files end up hidden under "C:\Users\[your username]\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files\SEGA\Medieval II Total War\"
So you have to enable "view hidden files and folders" and go look for it there.
Why does Vista do this? Only the devil and Bill Gates know...
I'm almost sure that the reason mongols use the Arabic voices is because they don't have their own. They have battle voices, for custom battle, and ones for clicking on them as allied/neutral/enemy, but none for them when playing on the campaign map.
No, the OP is correct in that the Mongols in vanilla M2TW had their own Asian voices. It always bothers me in SS that they sound like the Islamic factions. Also, the Mongols should be Pagan, not Islamic (they did not convert until much later).
Hmm...really? When I played them in the Custom Campaign Mod, they still used Islamic voices, but just on the campaign map.
I agree, they should get their asian voices, at least in battle.
I also did not like the removal of their masks.
To get the files on vista, the easiest way is to go to a medieval 2 total war shortcut, right click, and click on open file location
the file you need is actually the descr_sounds_accents.txt in your ss/data folder. open it and change the faction mongols to the accent mongolian. But don't do it if your game's language is not english because this will make your game crash!
Umm, yes. It appears Vista is in two minds about where it installs things. Having recently reinstalled SS, I see that this times the files are where they should be: under C:\Program Files\ etc.
If you don't find the file there, open windows explorer (right-click the Windows button previously known as "Start"; select "Explore").
Here, click "Organize" in the upper left corner.
Choose "Folder and search options".
Select the "View" tab.
Select "Show hidden files and folders" from the list.
Click OK.
Now your secret Vista pretend-Program Files should be visible and searchable.
Ta.
In SS 6.0 will the Mongols use the Arabic voices or will they go back to the original? Sorry if this has been asked/answered but I haven't seen anything about this and this seems like the right thread to ask.
I changed the descr_sounds_accents.txt file, but the Mongols still use the Arabic voices. (Our foes fight with horns made of clay!) Does anybody else have any ideas? I don't use Vista.
sorry i forgot... after you changed the file, you have to delete the events.dat and events.idx in your ss/data/sounds folder... start a new game and it should work from now on
is it possible to still have islamic voices on the map? Now everyone is a mute
what language version is your M2TW... IIRC mongol, scottish and some other accents are reserved for the english version... other versions likle the german don't have the sound files at all (simply means that you will get a CTD when you click on faction chars on strat map and you will have muted units on battle map)
on the other hand, if you have the english version of the game, but the mods export_descr_sounds_units_voice.txt is changed... it will result in muted units, because the faction's accent has been changed but the units are listed in the wrong columns (or something like that). you would to change this manually (it's something i couldn't manage for BC for example) so good luck
I have the english version
I only have muted units on the strat map
Soldiers talk and give speeches on the battle map
I was just unsure if you knew this, and i hope this changes things
