nope, just watch your senate standings, keep them high and do what you want. If you want to keep senate support do about 80% of there missions

If the person I want to attack is really pissing me off, then I attack, regardless of what the Senate says. Most of the time, I accidentally step into allied territory while attacking someone else.
The best Senate missions are the ones that reward with cash and units, especially Triarii when I need them.
Varus? Where are my freaking legions?

Complete 60-70% of the senate mission, then attack any other factions except the romans at your will regardless of the alliance standing with the stupid senate, and watch their alliance go through the window.
The ai had done this to me, I was as the scipii, allianced with macedons, those stupid brutii went and attacked them, my alliance went down the drain.
So let be thee stupid senate, thy attack at will.....
I was born chivalrous, but situations made me a dreaded.
You could always kill/bribe foreign diplomats on route to Rome.

just keep in good standing with the senate (do the missions), and u can do whatever u want. if ur ready for civil war, just ignore the senate!they'll get ticked off, and, pretty generally, the more the senate dislikes u, the more the people like u.
Of these facts there cannot be any shadow of doubt: for instance, that civil society was renovated in every part by Christian institutions; that in the strength of that renewal the human race was lifted up to better things-nay, that it was brought back from death to life, and to so excellent a life that nothing more perfect had been known before, or will come to be known in the ages that have yet to be. - Pope Leo XIII
If you really want to stay in their good books then do it, but you can probably ignore them and invade - a useful attitude to the senate is just to tell them to go and **** themselves- it helps me a lot
