Quite an odd subgenre of metal in that it often focuses more on atmosphere than simply creating headbanging tunes. While it can be pretty silly:

I used to listen to some casettes given by some friends a long time ago, but was not really convinced.

Call me old-fashioned, but music means harmony, melody and euphony to me.

Listen to that Negură Bunget song and tell me it has no harmony, melody or euphony. It's the unconventional melodies that make it so damn good.

Hi guys! Nice to see that Negura Bunget is getting a lot of recongition internationally. I'm romanian so i saw them live several times, they give very good live shows. I know they sometimes use traditional romanian instruments and influences from folkore, so i guess it makes their music pretty unique.

Although i am more of a doom guy myself (My Dying Bride, Anathema).

One Black metal band I have been listening to alot recently would be Deathspell Omega.

^one of the best intro of an album I have ever heard.

I am not into most black metal.

I do really enjoy Otargos and Ulver and some bands that are combination of different genres like Enslaved which is vikingish black or blackened viking metal.

emperor has some really good tunes, and ancient rites is not bad either, but bathory is the sh!t, when it comes to black metal.

I don't really like Bathory's first 2 albums tbh. 'Under the Sign' and 'Blood Fire Death' are great, but I mostly prefer the later non-bm albums.

well, no band has a perfect discography (except for opeth ), but pretty much anything bathory released between "under the sign" and "twilight of the gods" is awesome.

    Opeth ??
    Hardly.
Only good album they released was their first one.
    After that they became boring.

The vocals ruin a lot of Burzum songs (like that one), but I do like some of them. 'Hvis Lyset Tar Oss' and 'Filosofem' are great albums and much much better than the earlier ones. Varg Vikernes is a complete idiot though.

what? orchid is a great album, but it certainly isn't their best, or their 'only good album'. Opeth's music is probably just not your taste, beacuse I don't find any of their albums boring (although GR has an annoying tendacy to drag every song beyond it's optimal length, which makes the album a bit tiring to listen to).
