I always thought of this man as nothing more than a political hack, until I looked into him a bit further.
I have found that some of his ideas match my own. Primarily about mass media, or media, or conglomerated media, I think this industry is possibly the most vital tool in any kind of political game. Control what the people hear and see and sense, they will go along with what they are given. It is not rocket science, nor conspiracy, that proves this. It is human nature.
I am a firm believer in human nature, being our good and evil, our rational and irrational sides that battle quietly within our beings. I have said before that before believing in God, I believe in human nature. Our condition, our weakness, as well as our strength. We are just as much the blessing as our curse.
So is Noam Chomsky on to something about linguistics? About Israel? About human nature?
I have just as much criticism over capitalism as I do over communism, where I think I will lose support because of, but I do think they are both very gray issues. One supports perfection of the human soul, while one rewards slitting the throats of those deemed in the way.
I cannot claim either to be better, but I will claim democracy as the best kind of government. As Churchill has said: "Democracy is the worst form of government except all those other forms that have been tried from time to time."
Does social control still exist? Will it always exist? When will it become so out of hand that everything we have achieved in the last centuries will be found, by popular support or not, to be obsolete?
