    Icon1 Using alliances in RTR

So I'm playing RTR with the Romans and it is really getting bloody, I made alliances with the Makedons, Germans and Iberians.

I wonder if you could tell me tips how to exploit these alliances.

F.e. Makedons are really strong (and cool ), and I want them to fight by my side. Everytime I ask them attack a faction they refuse, even for a huge amount of money.

I'm going to move this to the RTR sub-forum.

heh, don't get excited, your allies will backstab you at the first opportunity once you share a border and will never help you at war; sorry but RTW (and consequently all RTW mods') diplomacy sucks, is hardcoded and there is nothing to be done about it. Just keep in mind that alliances aren't woth the paper they are signed on in RTW and you'll be fine...

No problem, then i shall backstab my allies first.

One more question: does backstabbing my allies decrease my reputation amon other factions?

No such thing as reputation, everyone hates you from the get-go anyway.

Note that things tend to be more reasonable in diplomacy on medium campaign difficulty, on Hard and Very Hard the AI is clinically insane on that matter.

I am playing in Hard (Consul) difficulty both campaign and battle. While I find it not too hard (with Romans), when I started a campaign with the MAkedons on Emperor level, all of my neighbors attacked me. Wow. What is the suggested difficulty level?

Sorry! After rereading the post I can see that now.

Hehe - I don't think I'm the only one speculating/praying that the "evolutionary" leg of the ETW engine will be Rome 2. After all, RTW has probably been CA's most successful release so far.

Indeed RTW2 has to be the next installment in the franchise after ETW...right?

Personally, I think it's the most logical step for CA. I know that there are many who would like to see Shogun revisited, but when you consider the epic and global proportions of the vanilla Roman, Medieval and Empire grand campaigns I don't think CA would "take a step back" and devote an entire release to one country.

As far as Europe is concerned, CA will have pretty much covered the time span from 330's BC (Alexander) to the early 19th century by the time they release Empire, so their options there are pretty limited unless they revisit Rome (Medieval 3 doesn't bear thinking on! )

There are the 19th Century wars (eg. Crimea; American Civil War; Franco-Prussian; Colonial) but they lack the global epic impact that we've come to expect from a TW grand campaign, although they would undoubtedly make excellent expansion/mod subjects.

Of course, CA could set their sights further east and treat us to campaigns based in India and/or China. I think an Ancient Chinese campaign would be Shogun's best chance for a reprise, as an expansion or provincial campaign, but that likelihood is going to depend on whether CA consider that path economically viable.

Whatever they choose, CA are going to want to showcase their new sea battle engine again. At the moment my money is on a Rome 2, but to get back on topic, whatever it is at least the diplomatic element will be far more integrated into the campaign than it is at present.

After Empire TW, Rome2 would be a very good next step for CA to take (thanks for the info Tony ). The only little problematic thing to that, would be the region it will be placed in. With Empire TW they come with a giant map from North America to India. But such a map would be a little weared in the roman era. Imagine: conquering the "New World" with a gallic army or marching to South Africa with Pontus.

Oh and not to go off-topic...
Yeah, Alliances in RTW are worthless

Why not? Somebody will surely mod it and name it "Legions Gone Wild VI" or "Megalomania 2.0".

Lets just hope they increase the limits on regions, buildings and units, then we coulld get the detail to make RTR2 truly awesome.

They could go back and do a Greek Mythology TW with Titans and Gods lol

Why should there be a limit? Only for the regions when you will get into trouble with RGB values, never the less you could have over 16 million (*10^6) provinces. Cool victory conditions: "Capture Rome and 5,000,000 other cities"
