    Default A message to developers

I'm an enthusiast to the RTR series, whatever mod.
I've said it before, and I'll say it again: GREAT WORK!

As a side note, I've learned more about ancient European/Middle East history
than all I've learned in my highschool years combined.

My 2 cents based on my limited involvement and experience here.

Based on FMvonKleist's posts, other forum posts, and my limited experience,
it seems that for the hard-coded 60's BC crash, a combination of using the AUC fix
plus retaining the original 3 Roman factions seems to be the key to getting
    around the hardcoded bug.

    Original thread here
    http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?t=146612

Probably not everybody plays the game to that late, but if we (meaning you developers :original: )
can solve this 66 BC bug, some people like myself would be totally elated.

I just purchased BI from Fry's for $4.99 in eager anticipation of
AEE 2.0 and RTR 7 coming out.

Fortunately we'll never go back to the 3 roman faction, however AUC may be something to consider, though probably for RTR VII and not the mini games, as they're too far into production.

    If I may ask...

What is AUC? A Unifying Confederation? :hmmm:

It's Ab Urbe condita, which basically is how long since the founding of Rome.

Yep. Korlon's right. Obviously it's quite hard to find a decent way of measuring time as it were, as each civilisation used different means.

    Ah cool!

Is it possible to have the date say something else for other factions than the roman faction.

Oh! and at what date would the game start with AUC (ie 280 BC = ... AUC)?

I'm pretty sure you have to have a standard unit of time for every faction.

Ab Urbe Condita = 753 BC traditionally, so work from that.

Should that not be Urbe Condita without the Ab part? As Ab means since, doesn't it?

So it would be: .......................................... Eng:
Urbe Condita = 753 BC ................................. Foundig of the City = 753 BC
    and:
473 Ab Urbe Condita = 280 BC ....................... 473 since the founding of the City = 280 BC

(btw Thanks for the reply )

Yep, man I got wrapped up in the Ab part. The Ab really does it for me. But it should be just Urbe Condita.

    Just one more question:

Is it the founding of the city as the romans believed it was or is it historically accurate as well (ie archeological)?

I don't think it is something really verifiable with such precision by archaeology; this is the dating system the Romans used though, so you have to take their word for it, I guess

    :hmmm:

Where would TIC have come from if the RTR modders are no longer modding?

The mod isn't dead I can tell you that with sincerity - why am I spending my time writing these unit descriptions then?

Yeah, we're all having a good look for RTR VII. MCM himself is gallavanting around Europe like a man possessed trying to look for the holy grail that is RTR VII. We'll keep you posted. Also, we've got the Time Team on the job!

But seriously, work is ongoing on RTR VII and don't make the mistake that the mod is dead, it's alive and kicking.

The AUC is a purely conventional system, established by Varro in the 1st century BC. There is, therefore, no means of checking the "accuracy" of this tradition via archaeology and related sciences.

The preposition "Ab" is necessary, otherwise the phrase would mean just "as soon as the City was founded"

Incidentally, the BC reckoning of time is also a convention, established in the 4th (or 5th?) century by Dionysius Exiguus and is also quite inaccurate.

There must be a better way to translate "the founding of the city" (without the since part), right? I thought:

The founding of the city = Urbe Condita (ie. 0 AUC)
    and:
Since the founding of the city= Ab Urbe Condita (eg. 200 AUC)

    I'm probably wrong though
