    Default Overly sized Battles?

    Hi,

Last night I played possibly the largest battle that I have ever played and lost due to my computer being so choppy that I could not control the game properly. There was 4 stacks, It started with 2 stacks then the reinforcements came in. I believe there was somewhere between 15k-20k peices on the battle feild....I was Macedonia and the computer was Rome. I have been playing this campaign for about two months and have never seen anything like this before...to make matters worse there is no end in site with these overly size battles..Rome has 3 full legions backed up besieging my city...Is this sopposed to be like this?

If you are playing on 0-turn recruitment, then yes the battles will be large.

If you want to limit how many reinforcements can be on at once, go to your preferences file and change "UNLIMITED_MEN_ON_BATTLEFIELD:TRUE" to "UNLIMITED_MEN_ON_BATTLEFIELD:FALSE" this will stop too many stacks being on the screen at once.

The preferences file should be in (your RS directory)\preferences

    eg. C:\Program Files\Activision\Roma Surrectum\preferences

Ahh i think i need to turn this on to see how it goes, at the moment its just one stack versus one stack. Makes life abit easier, until you leave your legions next to each other and if one loses (yes it does happen if mobbed!) then you lose the other legions too (or at least they retreat a ridicoulous amount)

I play with unlimited men on battlefield set to FALSE. However, this only affects the armies that I field. I only get the reinforcements if I have a unit removed from the battlefield - and only a unit to replace each unit that leaves.

I also refuse to allow the AI to take control of any of my armies - if they are a balanced army that is. If I was playing Rome with only heavy infantry in the reinforcing army then I could be tempted. However, I try and use 'balanced armies' so that is never going to happen....

Quite often the AI can have multiple full stacks on the battlefield at a time.
