Do some factions have to horde to win?

i beat the campaign with franks without having to horde but with the goths it seems impossible to attempt a win without having to horde. anyone ever beat the campaign with goths or other poorly geographicly placed factions without hording? for some reason hording just seems lame and i dont like the idea of hording to win.

The Huns for one.

The Sarmatians need to horde in order to survive the first couple of turns, the Huns being on their doorstep. Depending on the appearing of new hordes and routes that the existing ones take, you may or may not need to horde.
It differs with every game.

Some factions like the Huns, actually start out as hordes, so you have to learn to deal with it. They aren't too bad in my opinion.

I find it hard to win as Goths without hording as well. Mainly because of the chain reaction that occurs, which puts a horde right on my doorstep.

Huns---Hordes to--->Sarmatians---Hordes to--->Goths

I suppose this chain reaction is to hit the Eastern Empire where it hurts most, the capital.

i dont think anybdy has to horde 2 win, but as the huns (for one, and probably other steppe civs) it is best to horde. u should win alot quicker that way
