    Icon10 Cavalry Soldier spacing problems,RESOLVED!!!

For the last couple of weeks i was trying to tighten the space bettween cavalry soldiers in one single unit but all efforts were in vain.
    From:
    formation 2, 4.4, 3, 6, 3, square, wedge
    To:
    formation 1.5, 4.4, 3, 6, 3, square, wedge
Until i got idea to peak in some other mods!!!
I looked closely at Darthmod and found out that all you have to do is to change one single number in descr_mount.txt:
    From:
    x_radius 0.8
    To:
    x_radius 0.7
    and it worked!!!!
    Definition of
x_radius is mount x axis radius for elliptical mounts, you know these yellow and green circles under the soldiers(arrow markers). The most important of all is that this feature doesnt change the values of attack in EDU.txt.
If you want to tighten the soldiers even more than 1.5 distance between them than lower the x_radius to 0.6,or 0.5 and so on...it depends how "tight" you like it.

A big thanks to Ahiga to put me in the right direction about descr_mount.txt and of course DarthVader and his guys at Darthmod.
    Enjoy!!!

Thanks for figuring out the missing link, dejan.

Good find, I was just about to start troubleshooting this. How does this affect when you set the unit to loose formation? And does the formation line in the EDU matter at all?

It doesnt effect the loose formation in any way for sure. The line in EDU.txt look like this:

    formation 2, 4.4, 3, 6, 3, square, wedge

The numbers in red represents normal square formation.
The first number in red represents the distance between the soldiers from left to right and vice versa.
The second number in red represents the distance between the soldiers lines behind themselves.

The numbers in blue represent loose formation.
The first number in blue represents the distance between the soldiers from left to right and vice versa(in loose formation).
The second number in blue represents the distance between the soldiers lines behind themselves(in loose formation).

The last number in purple represents how many lines this unit will have.So if you have 150 soldiers in one unit it is stupid to put them in only two or three lines.Ten or fifteen lines are better and realistic.(There is one more issue about this last number which i will explain latter).

So if you change for example only the first two numbers that only have effect on the unit in normal square formation, the loose formation stays the same.
    Example:
    formation 2, 4.4, 3, 6, 3, square, wedge
    formation 1.5, 3.3, 3, 6, 3, square, wedge (changed square formation)
The same thing about loose formation.
    Example:
    formation 2, 4.4, 3, 6, 3, square, wedge
    formation 2, 4.4, 1.5, 3, 3, square, wedge (changed loose formation)

The answer on second question is of course they matter. But if you want to change numbers of lines in unit in EDU.txt you must first look in descr_formations_ai.txt.
    In
descr_formations_ai.txt there is one limitation about how many soldiers can be put in one line in unit.
    Example:
    min_unit_width 30
    max_unit_width 30

That mean that minimum and maximum is number 30.
If you have 60 soldiers and you want to put the unit in three lines it wouldnt work. The script will put the unit automatically in only two lines, because the minimum in the line is 30 soldiers. But when you change the value in:
    min_unit_width 10
    max_unit_width 30
The script will allow you to put the unit in threee lines because you have now 20 soldiers in line and ten is minimum.

This is very helpfull to someone who plays on small and normal unit sizes.
It is not pleasant to see 48 soldiers overstreched in only one or two lines. In the end it is a matter of taste.
I hope i make it very clear.

You answered my question, its good to know that last part for my mod, and definitely worth knowing that changing the EDU values will not do anything. Now to see if you can have one spacing for reg cav and another for HA.

What EDU values do you mean? Charging values?Every value that you change in EDU.txt will have effect!!!
I said when you change the radius in descr_mount.txt for tighter formation of cavalry soldiers it will not effect the values in EDU.txt.
The tightening of space between soldiers happens in
    EDU.txt, not in descr_mount.txt.
Descr_mount.txt only enables this option (makes it possible).
There is no limitation how many changes you can make.
    Reg cavalry,auxilia
    cavalry,general cavalry,...it doesnt matter.
You can use different spacing for each cavalry if you like but this changes you must do for each cavalry in
    EDU.txt.
    Everything clear now???

Ok, you can change the spacing in the EDU but you also have to change the value in descr_mount to a lower amount in order to see the change.
