I think sodomy is the last thing wardens have to worry about, honestly. Drugs, gang contacts, and violence are much bigger problems.

Besides, how do you expect to stop sodomy?

It's not as prevalent as the jokes would have you think. In fact, a rapist of another prisoner is more likely to get ganged up upon and taught a lesson by others, at least in Australia. Of course those things happen, though.

But in general, people like to serve their time quietly and without trouble. And rapists cause trouble.

They could always have a gay rapists wing. Put them all in together. That would be somewhat of a disincentive to do it in the first place, also.

I have heard (that already begins bad) that rape is not accepted at all in prisons. Its ot that easy like in movies (dropping the soap...)
However in a book writen about prison life in the former socialist system there were hints of some prisoners being used as sexual toys.

The interview subject backed up this practice saying that those people accept gay talking and somehow bring it upon themselves which doesnt sound very earnest.

Sometimes we hear about rape attempts in prisons (like in a gipsy's case) but most criminals rather prefer to keep a low profile. These things can't be as frequent as we guess from (american) movies, still too frequent indeed.

I remember watching Ross Kemp on Gangs, in South Africa I think - the gang leader would just call a guy and tell him to kill someone in another gang and if he didn't do it, he'd just turn him over and rape him. It was pretty messed up.

Anyway..... In the South Africa prison system Gaurds are underpayed and usually not very strong, compared to many of the prisioners who are either serving extended terms from aparthied crimes not repented* like alot from the communist party are still serving for being communists* or they are hardened criminals who are built like tanks. Amazingly stealing won't get you in prision even though it should, police here are equipped more along the lines of the military, if you get arrested you won't be in there for 2 years....

yeah every person Ive ever met who did hard time, said that mainly people just wanted you to shower regularly because everyone lives so close together if your hygeine is bad, your fellow inmates pay.

but butt rape was not a thing that went down with movie regularity

south africa is one of the worst, saw a doc on it and they have such a large population with aids that aids rape is a punishment, and when someone is murdered they will usually eat the heart or liver, in accordance with old tribal war.

But it's horrible but it's rather hard to stop. You can't have the guards hanging around the shower all day. But the drug-smuggling and murdering is a lot worse then this in my opinion.

its all about utility, 600 men staying within 4 feet of one another for years requires regular showers.
