Default [RS AAR] The Roman Quintumvirate (Hotseat/AAR)

    Ave Patricians and Plebeians,

This a thread dedicated to a community game. It will consist of a single campaign shared by several palyers, each one will be allowed to play a few game-years and then report in here in an AAR fashion.

The players will download the save game, play, then upload it back here for the next player.

We will try to keep it as simple as possible, with very simple rules. These rules will be edited along the way, to suit our community, so refer to this first post often to keep updated.

    No cheats whatsoever

The first rules i thought of are:
    1. every player has to have the exact same version of the game without any modification (no personal tweaking, stat altering or such) in order to avoid any CTD's while uploading the save game.
    2. we will be playing RS 1.5a (RTW.exe), go here for the latest version: http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?t=137604
    3. we will be playing on H/H setting
    4. one first cohort per legion, legion constitution is up to individual player, must have at least one General
    5. we will be playing Rome as a starting faction

as far as gameplay, each individual should play his/her own way, the challenge is to adapt to the previous player's style or just change everything back to your own style, which will be quite difficult if you only have a few game-years to reverse the aggressive war policies of your predecessor, so you have to do with what is readily available.

I do think, we should try to avoid spending more than half of our income in military budget, only build one structure in each city at a time (if you have 5 cities, queue up to 5 buildings total), save some money for the next player.

Each player will play 10 turns (or 5 game-years), each consulship starts in the summer and ends in the winter 5 years later.

    Players list:
    Faridus Africanus
    Snuggans
Killer Jack (taking exams, good luck)
    Arnspac
    SMoVader current Consul

Please refer to this first post often. It will indicate the current player and provide info on any rule changes

i have finished my turns, this save is the end of winter 474, the next turn officially starts in summer 475 AUC and lasts until winter of 479 AUC (save at the end of winter, before hitting next turn) so the next Consul starts his turn in Summer 480 AUC. remember, it's 5 game-years (10 turns).

as far as report, this is a quick summary before i the AAR ready:
i managed to hold the Veneti north of Ariminum, i fought them thrice at the river crossing, the first time with one legion, the second and third time with another legion. i was victorious at all times. my plan was to make peace with Pyrrhus, in order to hold the Veneti in the north, with that done, i besieged Bononia. the Italian rebels in the south, are staying put. i left about a legion and a half in the center to be readily available to the next consul. good luck!

    AAR to follow

PS: i'm not sure whether Nellup is going to pick it up at this time, if not then Jingle Bombs should pick it up from here.

jingle and snuggans are ahead of you, but if they are ok with it too, then just download the zip file, unzip it and copy/past it in your RS saved games folder.

when you are done with your turns, go to your saved games folder, copy it, zip it, then upload it with your post. if you look under the post when you are typing a reply, you'll see a button that says "Manage Attachment" then browse and find the zip you want to attach. then attach and post your reply.

make sure to save at the end of winter_479.

killer_jack, I'm fine with you taking my turn - I really don't have time at the moment just make sure Snuggans and Jingle_Bombs are OK with it.
I'll make sure that I take my next turn, no matter what.

    a- we are using RS1.5a, and the exe i think it's RTW.exe
b- anybody can join whenever someone dropps out of the Quintumvirate.

by the way, since Nellup is skipping this round, the next player does not have to play a double round, just a regular 10 turn consulship and pass it on to the next player, so it's not too long and tedious.

I didnt focus on reuniting Italy i just wanted to make our ecomomey a bit better.
We now have a foothold on greece. We got Sparta and the one with the Zeus thing.
We also got 3 new family members

    The Roman Quintumvirate
    The first years

This is the detailed account of the first Consulship as narrated by the famous Gaius Faridus (a distant relative of mine):

    Just a quick update:
Killer Jack, I cant help but think that attacking sparta was a tad hasty, as so far all it has given me is riots, and enemy sieges, I'm doing my best to hold my bit of the pelopponesus, but its difficult with only hastati I'm sure I'll pull through it though...

Everywhere else is fine, I've taken Patavium, as well as Corsica and Sardinia and I've got the carthaginians grovelling for a peace treaty. The main problem I face is wether to divert my forces in the south towards the Epirots in Tarentum, or to take offensive action in greece, where I'm getting stack after stack of city hoplites thrown at me... What do you guys think?

in my opinion, we should secure Italy as soon as possible.
we can retake the peloponesus later...i'd hate having the enemy (or potential enemy: Pyrrhus) in my backyard while fighting the Greeks.

is cannae yours? if not i'd go reinforce sparta. if it is yours, i'd have to take a long look at how aggresive pyrrhus is, and compare it to the aggression in southern greece.
