Default Problem Reinstalling MTW and VI

    Hello,

I wanted to know if anyone could help me with a problem with MTW. I installed MTW and VI with no problem. I also downloaded the XL mod. XL worked with no problem. I wanted to try some of the other mods. Rather than uninstall, I simply deleted the total war folder from my computer. I was able to reinstall MTW and VI. I then downloaded and successfully installed Pike and Musket: Total War. I then deleted the total war folder again in order to freshly install MTW and VI so I could install Age of Warlords.

That's when my problem began. I took me several tries, but I was able to reinstall MTW and VI. I was then able to install Age of Warlords. Unfortunately, the game did not work with the Age of Warlords mod. So, I deleted the total war folder once again to remove the Age of Warlords and freshly reinstall MTW and VI. This time, however, it seems as if my computer will not read the setup on MTW disc 1. I get the prompt to install the game. I click on install the game, but nothing happens. Once or twice I was able to get the notice stating that installshield would begin setup. After that setup notice, nothing would happen. I also tried opening the disc files and clicking directly on setup.exe, but that didn't work.

I'm not quite sure how to fix this problem. I installed CCleaner so I could clear up the registry but does not seem to have worked. There must be some file somewhere in my computer that is blocking the setup. I'm working with vista, which may be part of the problem.

I apologize for the long post, but I wanted to fully explain my issue. I'd really appreciate any help that you could offer. Thanks.

I placed this post in the wrong forum. I'm having technical problems with MTW I and not MTW II. I'll post my question to the proper forum. Sorry about that.

    oh
there must be another way to delete mods...cuz i heard that each time u want to install a game the dvd-rom will burn some of the files....each time it does...so if u want to delete and re-install the game for so much time at last it won`t be installed...and there is nothing u can do but buying another cd(i think...i hope not.)

    Kenossos,

Thanks for the response. I was afraid that I may have damaged my discs with what I was doing. I may have to purchase a copy somewhere. Hopefully, someone can come up with a solution. I'd hate to waste money on another copy.

Hello rlnnj, welcome to the forums.

This may be a cumbersome time consuming process but it may help.

1.Go to your add/remove programs section. Look for M2TW, if its there uninstall.

    2. Click on your "C" drive, go to programs, look for SEGA, delete it if you find it.

    3. Type in "regedit" on your search function, click on it. Look under your software headings (there may be a few), look for SEGA, M2TW, and the names of any mods you installed.

    4. Search your whole computer for SEGA or preferably, "Medieval", delete any files (make sure its M2TW files and not others).

    5. Defrag your computer.

    6. Try reinstalling the game from the disc.

Also, if this doesnt help, check (if you can) if you can install from the disk on another PC. If you cant, you may have a problem with your disc. If you can, try looking for a good restore point on your computer and do the steps again.

Lemme know how you get on brother.

    Heinz,

I couldn't find anything for SEGA. I may be out of options. I think I'll have to replace my disc. Thanks though for the help.

MTW and VI are Activision, before Sega.
