What exactly is/are the benefits of making a faction become a vassal to you?
I made the HRE do it in my last campaign, but I didnt realy understand what it did.
Any thoughts?

what are the benefits of becoming a vassal?
Well u give up, tho the AI often demands it while u are still very powerful. basicly it means that u give up and become a lesser part of your "protecter's" empire having to give money to them and receive protection in return, which honestly never happens.
i just became a vassal of france recently and they attacked me straight after got a diplomat and said be our vassal again lol
Oh so there are no benefits that everyone else is getting except me then.... I always end up losing provinces my overlords if i become a vassal and you lose all your money.
It's not really half their income, it's more like an amount of their income if their money gets higher than x amount, I heard it was 15000 florins. In my Stainless Steel campaign, I had Ireland vassaled by me. I got about 100,000 florins afterwards since they had too much money. So it might be nice to vassal some nation, get their extra money, and then backstab them cold-heartedly.
Thats what teh AI generally does.
