    Default A question for RS2

Ok, I have a question and I don't think it's been asked before. In RS2, will it be more difficult to maintain your empire? I mean making less money as you expand was a step forward. Managing a large empire isn't that hard as long as long as you have sufficient garrisons and border forts. I rarely see civil unrest in the provinces of my empire. I mean, is it possible to have civil war occur in the form of large scale rebellions due to poor leadership, or losing major battles, or death of a King via scripting? I think it would make the game much more interesting. Lets say a king dies and is succeeded by a strong leader, nothing happens but lets say he's assassinated and the next in line is a character with poor traits. Would it be possible to have major unrest in the empire? I think it'd be fun trying to reclaim your rebellious provinces instead of conquering 24/7 I'm not sure how this would work with republics like Rome or Carthage but it would make playing factions like the Seleucids much more interesting or other factions for that matter once they expanded a bit. Also, if possible it would prevent super factions from gobbling up the entire map. Again, having no modding experience and very little knowledge of modding itself, I have no idea if this would be possible with scripting or possible at all. And also, good luck in your work with RS2.

You could try to set it so that public opinion varies according to whether you win or lose battles. Bad results in battle = Unhappy cities.

Well, the traits of your generals can affect that, if you use them as governor.

I was thinking of a global effect. Like when you suffer a crushing defeat the happiness in all your cities goes down for one turn. That would be realistic as well, as people will be happier in a country they think is winning the war.

Interestingly, icydawg, we just started discussing this idea yesterday -- are you reading our minds? Specifically, I'm hoping we can implement a 'Succession Crisis' script that will test each family member's loyalty, and each non-homeland province, when the faction leader dies and his heir takes the throne. This would make the death of a faction leader a very uncertain time for any faction, and the larger your empire, the harder it would be to hold it all together -- adding a whole new dimension to the game. Suddenly the faction leader will become a tremendously important character, one that you want to keep alive at all costs!

I think that is not a good idea to make a big empire harder to maintain, making more rebellions.Historicaly public order were mucth biger and ain't needed a huge army in a city to prevent rebellion.I think it would be mucth fun to make less rebellion, and it would be more historicaly accurate.I hate when I have a great empire, have mutch strong enemies and I have to waste my army on reconquering my own cityes rather then using them to conquer the enemy.

At the moment it is being discussed that a small script would be used, so if you don't wish to see such things happening then just delete the script.

I really like the idea of a succession crisis, and adding on to this I think it would be really nice to have a way to represent internal factionalism and power struggles between your family members/generals. One way I can think of is using the trait system, you could have it set up so that when you have multiple characters in a city there would be a chance for them to form a sort of partisan faction; represented by them all gaining some trait which would have so kind of effect to represent a clique as it were.

This could probably be fleshed out further by having it so that certain ambitious characters would have this 'faction' trait and then essentially be able to form their own little clique of friends and allies if you put them together with others for any length of time. Eventually you could have a whole slew of compteing internal factions... though I still have no idea exactly what kind of effects would make this work best...

    ...I'm brilliant aren't I?

Actually Cherry, I was reading something about this in the Medieval 2:Total War forums over at heavengames.com As I stated I'm not sure if it's even possible but it would be really cool if it could be.
