i was thinking about it, not really sure though tbh, i hate almost all the d&d style 'mmos' - i really despise grinding npcs all day long 24/7. Not my idea of fun and if conan requires such things for very long i wont bother with it

Carach just hates all MMO's. Except innovative ones like My Little Pony Online.

You know I'm just playing with you Carach.
According to the Theory of War, which teaches that the best way to avoid the inconvenience of war is to pursue it away from your own country, it is more sensible for us to fight our notorious enemy in his own realm, with the joint power of our allies, than it is to wait for him at our own doors.

planetside and eve online were alright till soe destroyed their game and eve got boring and meta-dominated.

if any of the godamn games companies out there would just listen to my uber idea for an MMOFPS we would all be happy and wow and the other pathetic excuses for games would die. I got more than just mmofps lined up too! LISTEN TO ME!

I am hoping against hope that this will be the ultimate PVP game.

Shadowbane was DAMN close, 100% player controlled content, super-quick leveling, guild vs guild pvp..... too bad the game was so damn buggy that it made everyone quit.

Right now Eve and Lineage 2 would be the true ultimate pvp game if it didn't take so long to level up and get into a decent guild

Likewise, I'm hoping it will be a chance for worthwhile PVP. I have my reservations about the PVP server, as I think without some mechanic of enforcing sides you're just going to get something less like battles of city states and more like gangland warfare. The RPVP server is said by funcom to have 'something' which may make it a bit more organized (or something to that tune), which is where I hold my hopes out for.

For a quick lowdown on how the combat systems now, check this site: http://community.ageofconan.com/wsp/...&template=main
    • Defense:
      • Passive vs Active. Passive is the usual sort, stat based.
      • Active has you having some control over it -
        • Shields Up! – Some classes have the options to use items like shields. While this will decrease your damage output, to a degree, it will also let you block and deflect incoming strikes, ensuring you last longer on the battlefield. This costs Stamina, but lets you bring up your shield to stop blows.
        • Bring A Friend – Sometimes, you want to take cover behind the bar, and sometimes, you want to hide behind something a bit more stout, like 250 pounds of muscle wearing 50 pounds of steel. Staying behind the big guys in the big armor is a good way to keep yourself alive. After all, if the beasts can’t get to you, they can’t very well hit you. Monsters and NPCs can defend themselves, too. Imagine the surprise of the eager Barbarian when his enemy cowers behind his shield, peeking out to see if the big bad man in animal skins is gone yet.
        • Movement – Running around jumping up and down might not be effective, but there is a place for movement in the Age of Conan combat system. Quickly tapping the movement keys in a certain direction may make for a short, quick burst of movement in that direction (such as dodging out of the way of an incoming strike).
      • And most important, the Shield System:
        • Part of the combat system in Age of Conan is the directional attacks, controlling every swing and strike, and working hand in hand with that is what we call the shield system. The shield system is simply a way of representing a lot of small things, like the guy who always tries to cover his right side or the monster that’s weak to frontal assaults.
        • Your enemy will focus their defense in certain areas, represented by a set of icons that surrounds them. The more of these icons that are on one side, the heavier his or her defense is on that side, and the less damage you will do when attacking that side.
        • The player can also shift his shields to protect more of a certain side.
I cannot find a quick summary of melee combat, but basically you use the Q, 1, 2, 3 and E keys (I believe warriors get all five, everyone else only gets 123. Not sure) to decide how you swing your weapon. When you press a combo button you have to follow the combo's swing order - Let's say you press a combo to do some fancy swing with your two hander. You'd press the button then have to swing left and then right to pull it off.

While I have reservations as always, seeing it in a video did downplay some of my worry, and the fact that it seems almost like a fighting game has been appealing.

Personally I would like to see a Star Trek MMO, there's plenty of scope in the ST universe to do pretty much anything you want.

Rumors that they removed mounted archery due to kite exploiting. That and mounted spellcasting, which I understand, but no horse archery?

I'm a huge Conan and R.E.Howard fan, I own most of the SSoC's, but I'm not touching this 'mmorpg' with a ten foot pole.
Anything that you have to pay a monthly fee for oversteps boarders of the retailer/consumer relationship.

    Internet providers? Cable? Kidding though.

I know what you mean, though. It's a bit embarrassing that a MMO costs 14 dollars a month whereas it costs 49.99 a year to pay for Xbox Live. In a year you'll have spent 164.89 (14.99 x 11, minus the initial 30 free days), vs roughly half that for access to a wide series of games. Or vs nothing to play on the Ps3 online.

When one begins paying a monthly fee for a videogame, it's gone beyond a form of entertainment. I just won't go there.
When FPS games start charging montly for online play I'll dump them too.
The Conan franchise hasn't been the same since it went under in the 90's and was picked up by that Euro company later, anyway.

I will wait for reviews on this one.
May sound nice but games rarely turn out that way.

Pre-ordering it tomorrow. Warhammer Online got delayed again so I'll have to get this instead. Who knows, maybe I won't be able to switch to Warhammer Online in the future
