Adopted generals
Anyone know if it's possible to get adopted generals and men of the hour to NOT show up in the family tree? I want the general, but I want a pure family tree
Come to thing of it, how DO you get a man of the hour? I've had generals with small armies win amazing victories agaist an army nearly twice the size and no men of the hour (these armies of mine were led by captains, for the record), odd....
Anyone, if anyone knows how to get them to not show in the family tree I'd love to know. Also, anyone know a good way of getting much needed generals early without soiling my royal family with fility adoptions? My modded Byzantium has the faction leader, the heir, and 1 named general. The named general is off on Cyprus, leader is killed in winter of 1180, which leaves me the heir to and no males to come of age for the next 16+ years...

Re: Adopted generals
You can give your king more sons by editing the family tree in the strat file. Things you need to be cautious with are valid names, parent/child age difference and a valid family tree (mod workshop for tutorials). You can add starting generals here too which will not show up in the family tree, by creating a named character which is not listed in the family tree (needs a bodyguard unit). Afaik there is no way to alter the adoption/man of hour rules besides the age of the adoptee (and traits of course but that's a different story).
You can alter the desc_campaign_db.xml file in a way that makes your daughters (which change the family name) come of age younger and retire sooner (if not instantly). If it is not a princess the character will vanish from the family tree and make room for male offspring, princesses get greyed out though, so you might want to let them "live" for at least a couple of turns to inbreed them quickly.
The program seems to consider any unmarried unretired woman as good as an existing general when it comes to total region / max general comparison so you need to get rid of the woman. As a downside you will need to wait the full time until your properly named general comes of age and finishes his education. And there is always the chance that the next child is a daughter again.
Men of Hour happens (at least with a high probability) if you have more regions than generals, unmarried woman or children (future generals/wifes) total at the turn of the battle. I don't know about other factors, but I can confirm from experience that a heroic victory is not needed. A bunch of town militia auto resolving one rebel archer can give you a men of the hour if the prerequisites are met.
