Low fps in every resolution

Hi,

I've been fighting with my Medieval 2 Total War whole year. The only problem is low fps although I set almost every graphic-setting low! I even set resolution to 1024x768 and all graphics to low but it was almost more laggier than with my defaul 1280x1024. Fps is generally between 20-35 with normal battles (about 2500-3000 men). For example with 4 armies it's almost impossible to play.

My specs:

AMD Athlon 64 X2 4600+
Ati Radeon X1900 XT 512 Mb PCI
1,5 GB RAM
Dual-SATA Motherboard

And I don't consider that my specs are very out-rated. I've tried Dxtweaker and gained some fps but not much :S

The game will run about 20-35 based on the design of the game When you say low fps, how low is it.

Something's definitely wrong. With that setup, you shouldn't be getting such low fps with even low graphical settings. Update drivers if you can.
