HI,,
Is actually a way of increasing the speed of routing units???
Its just spoils the fun when you decimate a whole routing army because your men can always run faster than them.... Of course you can always desroy them when you rout them but using cavalry , ambushing them ,surrounding them..
Actually its the will of life that make the routing army run as fast as they can...
Finally, in this way the casualties of the battle will be decreased as much as in ancient greece in 5bc where casualties werent great..the victory was more a matter of routing the enemy and not killing them to the last man..
OF course Persians had many casualties but due to the fact that they got surrounded as in Marathon...

Aristomenes, I had this same discussion in another mod forum some months back. I always stop pursuit of a routed army and end the battle as soon as given the opportunity. The total destruction of an enemy army is very improbable and did not happen that often in antiquity i believe. Hope you don't mind me lending my opinion to your post. I too eagerly await Hegemonia!

Most of the time I don't chase a routing army and accept victory as soon as I can. However, there have been times that I have massacred whole armies -usually when they've entered my city and i can surround them or if i'm in the middle of a brutal war and my general seems the type.

Im the opposite i take the time to crush my enemies and chase them down. Its a good way for some units to gain experience and the more you kill the less chance a big army gets away and the more chance they rout and flee altogether and just break away/.

i feel the best victory is when in a split second using the hammer and anvil tactic used by alexander a lot.(comit there men to you center and sent you cavelry around the side and crash into them from behind) the whole army routs but has no where to run. a few get away but you got to let some live havent you?

i would say no because its all part of the skin of the unit. i dont have much knowlage about units makeup but i would gess it just a skin wraped around a shape to some degree thats why you get that thin line down the back of some units.
