1x general
3x heavy calvary
1x skirmisher calvary

"I used to eat people, but now I'm full."
Im Always rome and it goes
1 general
1 first cohort
9 cohorts
5 auxillia
3 cavalry
1 onager
or 1 foot general
Just out of curiosity, what kind of units are Rome's, Carthage's, Eastern, and the Barbarian foot generals. I know that the Greeks use sword hoplites so what do the other factions use.
"I used to eat people, but now I'm full."
Ive only played rome but the governors nad proconsul look like principes and the praetor viscus' look like pratorians
icydawgfish, i like playing Syracuse but I mostly like their hoplite units:
1 general
2 Aetolian cavalry
2 light cavalry
10 hoplites (Syracusian or Sicilian)
2 peltasts
2 archers
I normally leave one unit slot open so I can add artillery or mercenary depending on what the army's objective is.
As Macedonia i usually use this
1 general
3 macedonian heavy cavalry
5 phalanx pikman
5 royal pikeman
2 peltasts
2 greek archers
2 sword hoplites
Macedon army.
1 General
4 Royal Pikemen
2 Sword Hoplites
4 Hoplites
2 Macedon Armoured Cavalry
2 Companion Cavalry
4 Greek Archers
In truth the composition varies a fair bit depending upon what the army is gong to be used for - an assault on a settlement, a field battle or simply sitting on a bridge and killing everything that comes it's way.....
The following are the armies I have at the moment in my Macedonian campaign;
This army is on it's way by fleet to Syria to expand the holdings there;
Quite often I will decide to consolidate my holdings before continuing. So, quite often I will simply plant an army on a bridge and hold.
Bosphoran front;
North Macedon - facing Gallic Tribes;
North West Italy - facing Romans
This is a field army on it's way to attack the Gallic Tribes North East of Italy;
This is a field army operating in Northern Macedon about to attack some Gallic Tribe armys or alternatively assault Sarmisegetuza;
This is a field army currently laying siege to Thebes - it's already taken Alexandria and Memphis;
Armenia.
This is an early army that's been partially transformed (I added two more Cataphract units);
This is a late army where the infantry (Pikemen and Eastern Infantry have been replaced by Armenian Legionarys);

companion cavalry and pikeman are the best combination east of Rome ...Macedon in my opinion is one of the most flexible factions other than the Seleucid's and Rome..although using that to take out the eastern factions is a challenge when they are using horse archers but if you're good enough w/ your cavalry its not really a problem

With Pergamon, and I guess other Greek factions I use this:
1 General
4 Hoplites
4 Pergamon Hoplites / Armored Hoplites
2 Sword Hoplites
2 Heavy Peltasts
4 Archers
3 Heavy Cavalry
Lots of the time I switch out a cavalry unit for some Onagars - they do wonders against phalanxes. Also, where possible I put in 4 Pergamon heavy Infantry in place of the Sword Hoplites and Peltasts.
Basically I put the 4 hoplite units in front and engae with them, then once the enemy are exhausted, I charge my armored hoplites in through the first line as a second wave while i flank with my cavalry and other infantry; and this is usually enough to route the enemy.![]()

----------{archersssssssssssss} {archersssssssssssss}
---------------------{legionary cavalry}
-------------------------{general}
i fight mainly in the north, so this is geared towards babarians.
it works like: skirmishers attack them to get them to move.
they move, switch artillery and archers to flaming shots.
they take it till they get to the lines.
legionaries throw their pilum, 9 times out of 10, this combined with the walking through fire is enough to rout them.
cavalry stream through the lines, chase them down, and you know what happens.
spears are their just to defend against flanking cavalry, they don't really see much action.
i only play roman
this is my field legion
1 proconsul
1 first legionaire unit
14 legionaire unit
4 archers
siege legion
1 proconsul
4 legionarie unit
1 first legionaire unit
10 auxilla units
2 heavy or normal oragers
garrson legion
1 proconsul
1 first legionaire unit
14 legionaire unit
2 archers
2 chavary (all areas with fraction that have seige weapons)
2 archers (area that are barabaric)
I've already started putting together ideal RS2 army compositions for my beloved Makedon.
1 general
8 phalangites of varying ability, hopefully enough veterans to assure a strong center
1 royal hypaspists
1 hetairoi
1 tarentine cavalry
1 other heavy cavalry
2 allied hoplites
2 thureophoroi
2 various psiloi troops
1 varies depending on enemy
edit; Aw damn, I forgot about the Agrarian infantry and royal peltasts and others. . . A truly great lineup, though! I look forward to testing which combinations work best.

I play Rome alot.
Armard Genral
First Corehort
9 Corehort
6 archers
3cav
or 1 Olinger.
Pre Marian and Imperial reforms:
1xGeneral - (sometimes 2 Generals units if a younger family member is available but needs hand holding by one of my veteran generals) This allows your young upcoming family members to get veteran points for their cavalry. Because should a 16 or 17 year old be leading a Roma army?
2X Triarri cohorts - I love these guys in early armies as they have a wicked bonus against cavalry, and are excellent offensive troops early on.
2X Hasatati - not my favourite units as they seem easy to get killed
4X Prinicpes - The workhorse of my early armies, tough and can do tremendous damage with their Pila waves.
1 or 2x Equites - Great for killing routers
2 or 4 X Velites - very important before one gets the archers
After Imperial reforms:
1 X General (again sometimes i let a more junior family member ride along and get some cavalry practice in before they become a full fledged General
1X First named legion cohort
9X named legion cohorts
2 or 3 X archers (I try not to use archers too much and usually only bring them along if i am facing ranged troops)
2X Triarri cohorts - I keep veteran Triarri from the early game split them up between my named legions. Even named legions dont really replace the specialty of charge and anti-Cavalry strength which the Triarri gives you.
1 or 2X Heavy or Medius Cavalry.
1X Onagers when sieging.
