    Default Possible?

Is it possible to stay Allies with destined enemies in the game? Such as Scotland and England, Milan and Venice, Moors and Spain, They always seem to betray each other when i'm one of them no matter what i do. It just bothers me that they attack at the most vulnerable time or the time when you don't expect it such as during a crusade or something.

Man if you keep giving them florin's every now and then they won't touch you with a ten foot barge pole. Although there are other, more complicated ways to stay allied with other factions, Nothing says i love you like cold hard cash.

Btw i spent 5 whole minutes laughing at your siggy picture.

Notice all the "destined enemies" are right next to each other, AI never seem to be able to hold an alliance with anyone who has regions touching their own.

Also, in the game files, you start with bonuses and negative reputations with each faction that is very tough to shake off.

You don't start with negative reputation, you always start with mixed reputation. The starting relationships are also very easy to shake off, just make an alliance with a faction that doesn't like you very much (England & Scotland, England & France) and voila: relations are "very good" or "outstanding" instantly.

If I remember my time fiddling about with the diplomacy files correctly, I believe mixed borders do encourage war, especially if the allied faction has limited room for expansion. The fact is, even with monetary gifts it's virtually impossible to stay allied with a neighbouring faction for a lenghty period, and this is even without mentioning the Ai's bizarre habit of attacking your ports for no reason and forcing war on you both.

Without a diplomacy mod or your own changes it's nigh-impossible to stay allied with other factions. The diplomacy is specifically engineered towards near-constant warfare.

In LTC as Scotland, I stayed allied with England until after the Timurids were defeated and I wanted to win the game which required that I hold London. It took a lot of harrassment to get England to attack me. I had a very reliable rep and had my man as Pope and all the Cardinals for a couple of hundred years. I did not ever hold York and I traded the English Caernevon (sp?) and Bruges for some French places.
