    Default Lag mysteriosly disapeared?

while playing this afternoon after school i finally gave up with lag and turned down all the graphics, but then i couldn't handle all the toothpick hand and legs so turned everything, that when it got wierd,

4 years of lag just vanished, and it ran as smooth as a babies bottom.

so then i played a custom battle with 8 thousand guys on huge unit size two romans versus an army of selucia with tons of elephants, and still no lag, max graphic

in the past i couldn't evne play with 1500 guys with out it lagging heavely when looking at all the guys at once.

anybody have anyidea why this happened?

btw anybody know how to make hotseat work for rtrpe switch version?

Lucky. I've had some random improvement in performance myself, nothing drastic though, or maybe that's just me getting used to the slowdown.

I dunno how to do hot seat, sorry

holy **** i wish that happened to me

pray its like that for the rest of your life and ill try to get the same thing going on....what exactly did you do, just change it back to normal (did you press for it to do it auto or did you custom it to get it down?) and did you do it in the battle or on the options menu?

Just like the elephant animation, this Carthage scenario is actually in the game, it just has a small percantage factor for showing up, that's all...

I am fairly sure that if you change the graphics settings in the middle of a battle it only changes that battle and not the next one. I may be wrong though.

There are more graphics settings available through the options menu than there is on the battlefield. So, I tend to change graphics through the options menu.

I am pretty sure it keeps the changes while in custom battle, but not when in a campaign battle...

    ok heres what i did

in mid battle i turened all settings and resolution, then i turned everhing on one by one, except shadows, i never play with shadows since they are to pixly.

    no lag

then left did a custom battle still no lag with 8000 guys

then started new campagn still no lag with 2 full stacks ducking out over tarentum romans and greeks

    it worked

also i found out what might of did it i forgot i did this about 2 weeks ago

i went to control panel, performance and maintance, system, advanced tab, performance settings, advanced tab again and changed page file siz to both 4000 max and min. then i restarted. I thought this was supposed to do something but it didn't when i went back and played there was still heavy lag.

but still i guess doing this and reloading the graphics worked! MID-BATTLE

    hope this helps people

ps: i also went and started a medieval 2 custom battle, reloaded graphics, and bam i could play max settings large units! yes yes yes yes yes yes

Some at least apply to the next battles. I use to change the settings available in the video section while in battle to test different things(model glitches, sprites and such) and if I forget to change them back to high the unit detail(for example) they would still be on low the next custom battle. Even if I close the game and start it with another occasion. I only remember this with custom battles, not campaign, but I suppose the same rule applies.

That rig should not have lagged when there were only 1500 men on the field. Seriously. Are you sure nothing changed?

Yeah it makes sense for that machine not to lag. It must have been some freak configuration or something that kicked up after you reset it.

Let us put it clear: Your pc won't handle all of a sudden a battle with 8.000 men with all graphics turned to the max- only when your system itself can handle that.
Adjusting video option might reduce lag due to some option your GPU couldn't handle quite well, and by adjusting that option you reduced the lag.
Don't expect it to do miracles and stuff, you are just the one case where it did...

i'm sorry no one else can repeat this, but i did get my freinds computer to run stuff on it as well, with a radion x300 128 mb, i managed to get to play rome normal unit size graphics med and max.

i guess this has run its course if someone wants to close it
