    Default mutilation for theft

    i hate thieves
i especially hate ppl who've stolen from me; ppl who've stolen the hard earned things i've worked for. i also hate it when ppl attempt to con me at the cashier by claiming that i shortchanged them ten dollars or something.
i've experienced such cons or thieves in my lifetime.but back on topic
one of the tricks thieves will do is typically request somethign which u need to go to the back of the shop to get, during which time they'll have stolen whatever was on the front counter.
ppl are generally taught not to steal and in the case of a country like australia where noone starves to eath, i think there's no excuse for stealing.
thusly, i reckon we should reintroduce a rather extreme measure agaisnt thieving, petty or otherwise:

    CUT OFF THEIR THIEVING HANDS!!!

not cutting off hands, because thats basically the equivalant of killing someone from starvation, but stripping of all land and property to be given half to the one stolen from and half to charity would be good. They would then hae to start a new life i guess. Second time theiving and ship them off on a boat and send them to find rebel pirates!

What alot of vigalantes do here in south africa is we take a spoon, put it on a fire for a couple of minutes, take it off, then stick it in the joint right below thier thumb. Its not permenant and you will regain use of your thumbs when both wounds heal. That should be the first punishment.....

Aah, good old Afrikaner justice, combined with a bit of barbaric 7th century Sharia law, just what the world needs. No matter what you might think about thieves, they are HUMANS as well, and no amount of crime or punishment can change that. By all means, take them from society, make them think about what they've done for a long, long time. But destroy their lives forever and fill them with hate? Not the best idea imho.

Make them pay back double the amount of money of what they tried to steal. If they can't pay, throw them in prision I guess. Maybe chop off a thumb if you are feeling mean

Jewish law states that they pay back double, If they sell it then they have to pay 10 times what they stole.
When i have a wife, i hope someone steals her.

In my opinion the problem with such a harsh measure is what if the suspect turned out to be innocent after the hand cutting? Except of course he was caught by a security camera supported by a bunch of witnesses. LOL

    I believe in a big bad-ass fine.
Mutilation was made the rule in those times since the bad-ass fine probably hurts more, is harder to enforce and isn't much of a deterrence as a result of the listed reasons.

When i have a wife, i hope someone steals her.
He clones 9 copies of her and gives her back.
Congrats. 10 wives looking exactly alike.

I can tell you are obviously angry, but how about seeing what you are advocating:

Warning! Graphic, not for anyone under 18, you might need an account.

    Mmm... Civilised.

Since you can truly repent after stealing, it's a bit harsh punishing someone permanently by cutting off their hand/hands/hand + alternate foot. Instead they should be made to pay back double the value of what was stolen, if they can't pay, they should go to prison and work to pay off their debt. If they persist, they should be imprisoned for a period of time (no joke periods, it should be long), at the end of that period, if they repent (fully and sincerely, you can tell when someone isn't sincere) they should be let free, otherwise they should stay another year, at the end of that they should be asked again.

Having seen that, I am pretty disgusted; they didn't even take it off with a single blow, but sawed it off with what looked like a kitchen knife. There are definitely better and more human ways to conduct justice, I am sure of it.

I've seen that footage before. It's completely frickin barbaric, there's no other word to describe it. Not to mention their 'professionalism' (doing it in an unhygienic dump), shoving plastic bags over the bleeding stumps. Those people are nothing but animals.

In Saudi Arabia they do it with a sword and local anesthetic, but I couldn't find footage of that.

Well, that is a little better I guess. I believe they also offer some kind of calming drug to those about to be beheaded too.

BTW thanks for reminding me of liveleak, I haven't checked it out in a while.

Nah, I saw an interview with the official executioner for Makkah on Memri tv, he says they just hack your head off, nothing to calm you, stop pain etc. Although I'd prefer to be beheaded than get the Electric chair or Gas chamber, at least they do it from the back, your spine will be cut instantly.

    The interview is here.

    Hmmm. Thanks SS.

What you have there is a legally sanctioned psychopath/sociopath. His illness seems to be viwewed akin to hero-worship, going by the smiles etc of the female interviewer. She almost looks like she's getting wet.

I used to steal things from locker rooms - phones, wallets, and the likes. And now I don't and I really dislike my old self. Had you cut off my hands, would I have changed? Or would I just be a common criminal with no hands who no-one will hire?

So, to sum up, stop being silly.

Aren't all executioners like that? As for the female interviewer, she does that with everyone that comes on. Another thing with that show, it's quite funny to watch how sexist they are. Sometimes she goes to ask a question and the male interviewer just cuts her off or interrupts her.

@regarding executioners. A lot of the Western ones from the last couple of centuries ended up dead. Alcohol & suicide.
