    Default Pontus Generals

Before you even close this thread, here me out:

My question has totaly to do with Roma Surectum and does NOT belong in the Rome Mod Workshop forums, my question is this:

When you recruit a General for Pontus you get the cool Capadocian Lancers, however, your family members have this crapy pila throwing horseman as companions... I want it make so the the Pontus family members also get the Capadocian Lancers for an escort, how do I do this???

that is probably the 'family member not receiving the armoured general improvement after the reforms' bug. according to the bugs & issues thread, it hasnt been fixed so i am guessing its complicated.

No, he wants to change the bodyguard for family members from being javelin wielding to being lancers like the recruitable generals have.

Well...poking around inside the EDU - there are three eastern generals listed.

east generals cavalry early, east generals cavalry, east pontic general.

The first one is the one with the javelins, the second is a cataphract unit and the last one, therefore, must be the spear armed generals cavalry.

The soldier for the first is listed as east_heavy_cavalry and for the third east_cappodocian_cavalry, so one assumes that changing the first from east_heavy_cavalry to east_cappodocian cavalry would force it to use the spear armed model.
However you may have to edit the entries in descr_model_battle as well, it depends how its been set up.
Try just changing the EDU, and if you get a CTD, then you know something else needs to be done.

The bolded is quite clearly a question on how to mod RS (i.e. it should be in the Rome Workshop).

As for your question about removing a unit from the game, these questions, as well as any other questions on how to mod either RTW or RS, should be asked in the Rome Workshop forum where, as I've noticed you found, your question will be answered in due course. If the answers are not arriving quick enough for you, you are more than welcome to search the Rome Workshop where I know you will find all the information you need.

Now this thread has all the ear marks of getting nasty so I'm going to close it before it does.

This is the third and last time you will be warned, any questions on how to mod the game, whether you are modding vanilla rtw/bi/alex or RS should be asked in the Rome Workshop thread. I have quoted my responses to you in two other threads you've created. So that it is clear this isn't the first time you've be asked.

As it appears you may not know what modding is I will supply a definition.

Modding: Changing a game from it's default state.

Changing RS from its default state is modding, changing vanilla rtw/bi/alex from their default state is modding. Any modding question you post from here in on will be dealt with, with no warning and you will be reported to the site's moderation team as spamming our forums against our wishes.

I'm going to go ahead and re-open this...as it deals with our EDU files, and would not be eas to describe in the Rome Workshop.

I disagree, you don't need to know our files in order to tell someone how to switch one unit for another. In my opinion that is clearly a modding question:

How do I swap unit A with unit B?

The fact that units happen to reside in the RS mod should not be relevent.

    EDIT: Temporarily closed pending discussion

I've looked at EDU anyway, and there is no problem with the Pontus Generals, except for the fact that the 'early' generals are being created as the family members because that unit in the first in line in EDU. This is being fixed in RS2 by REMOVING all early generals since they do not work right anyway. And although this is a sure modding question, it wouldn't hurt to explain this:

All family members are created using the first 'general_unit' unit that the game sees in 'export_descr_units.txt' for that faction.....EXCEPT in the case of the Romans. After the old 'Marian Reforms' (now Imperial Reforms) the game will choose the next general unit in EDU.txt that doesn't have 'and not marian_reforms' behind it's recruitment line. So after the Refroms, Roman Generals will be the 'Armored General'......but the game will not change the OLD general\family members to the new bodyguard. It's supposed to, but best resources say it got broken by the RTW 1.5 patch.

So in any case where you want the 'Armored General' to ALWAYS be the family member for ANY faction other than Rome, just move that particular unit 'above' the early general in EDU.txt.
