    Default Faction Leader...

someone asked about changinf faction leaders and sending one on a "long boat ride"...that made me think of something that could increase the game experience.

not knowing what's possible and what's not, i'll throw that out there and you guys decide if it's interesting and if it's do-able.

first of all, it would be great if one can assassinate one's own faction leader, it happened all the time throughtout history, if this can not be implemented in the game, then one would just send him on a "long boat ride" after selecting the heir of choice.

the second thing i thought about is, would it be possible for a faction leader to affect his whole empire instead of just the settlement he governs. just like wonders, when you capture one, it increases trade or happiness in all settlements..etc. so when the old leader dies, the heir takes over and affects his whole empire.

since rome can train the 'augustus', so if the one trained has good qualities/traits he could be set as a faction heir, then the old one is assassinated (or sent away!) and the augustus takes the reins of power.

It used to be possible to assassinate your own family members back in the MTW days, but I don't think this will be possible in the RTW engine.

remember that this unit is not in the family tree unless you manage to achieve getting him married to a daughter.

yes, i just thought of that...the augustus would be of no benefit if he isn't in the family tree!!!

I like your ideas. In BI the religion of the FL affected your whole empire too, didn't it?

When there weren't any religious buildings in the settlement I think.

I would be very cool to see the revolt risk go up in all your settlements for a number of turns after te faction leader dies... To represend the shift of power, would be cooler if some family members revolted and take advantage of the situation...
I don't think the RS team will be able to pull it of, but it would be cool nonetheless...

Or use him to hammer enemy armies and just continue to remove his retinue until he dies. Of course I have found the longer he's active the longer he lives.

    This option would be cool!

Oh, and the previous post isn't 100% correct: a faction leader of mine once had 9 scrolls, so I left him in charge of Rome (which prospered under his patronage), and he died -still in the city- after 50 years of service, at age 93!!

I've had once, but only once, and it was not a FL, that one of my family members became 103!

Yeah there was a thread about oldest Faction leaders a while back. Some were over 100. I mean if he's actively running around the map fighting he seems to last longer than just parked in Rome. While parked he gains a lot of retinue but that can be stripped away to deserving family members that you wish to prime for the new FL. Or just change your heir.
