not knowing what's possible and what's not, i'll throw that out there and you guys decide if it's interesting and if it's do-able.
first of all, it would be great if one can assassinate one's own faction leader, it happened all the time throughtout history, if this can not be implemented in the game, then one would just send him on a "long boat ride" after selecting the heir of choice.
the second thing i thought about is, would it be possible for a faction leader to affect his whole empire instead of just the settlement he governs. just like wonders, when you capture one, it increases trade or happiness in all settlements..etc. so when the old leader dies, the heir takes over and affects his whole empire.
since rome can train the 'augustus', so if the one trained has good qualities/traits he could be set as a faction heir, then the old one is assassinated (or sent away!) and the augustus takes the reins of power.
