Default Medieval 2: Disc not detected

I have been playing Medieval 2 for about three months, and one day I try to play, didn't download anything, no patches or expansions, and out of the blue my computer is not reading the disc, telling me to put in the Medieval 2 disc when it's already in the drive. I've checked some other discs and they work fine, so I know it's a problem with the game. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

What's the physical condition of the DVD? Take a look over its surface.

Almost perfect, aside from a few extremely minor scratches, nothing that would be a problem.

So, you've been playing for a long time. Then all of the blue, it just stops working? I know you said you didn't do anything to bother the game itself, but did you do anything else to computer since the last time you could play it?

I had the same problem. I had it running in compatibility mode and administrative mode...I turned them both off and it fixed the problem right away...not sure which one did it, but make sure that you check if you're running them.

How do I check to see if it's running in compatibility mode or administrative mode, and turn these off if that's the case.

I downloaded nothing during the time in between when I could play and when I couldn't play.

Well gosh darn, I have this problem too... Except it's worse because I had uninstalled the game but now I can't install it anymore. It reads the disk perfectly on my older comp but my new laptop has a dvd-rw drive, so I'm wondering if that could be the source of the problem? God,every day not playing M2TW is a day gone to waste .

Right click on the exe, select properties, then the compatibility tab.
