    Default 6.0 and the mongols

Been playing this mod and love it so far. I was reading that the new version is being released and the map extends farther east, which is great! Im sorry if this has been discussed already but does this mean the mongols are going to be spawning sooner? and is there any intention of making the mongols...better? if thats even possible.

I just find that I dont really get to face the mongol "threat" unless i crusade or play a faction in the far east, even then the mongols seem to some how lose and never threaten europe with the map extending I can imagine not facing the mongols even when im the Byzantines the way the horde seems to play

so in short, are the mongols being ramped up or changed much for 6.0? ty!

Unless you extensively mod the mongols in SS5.1b, they fissle out pretty quickly.

Aye, in my last campaign the Mongols made it to Hungarian controlled Constantinople where they crushed the Golden Horde. I have yet to ever see them break into Europe and I hope this changes in 6.0.

Ditto, they've hit constantinople a couple of times when I was playing, never west of there though.

I don't think we need to make them more powerful. The way KK has them set up in 5.1 (as a playable faction) is brilliant, with the hordes of money and hordes of .. uh.. horde... basically grab and sack as much land as you can before it catches up to you and you have to become a "normal" society and build your empire. It fits the concept of Mongol's initial invasion of Europe (huge wealth (starting to dwindle, though) + huge army + boredom = let's look for someone to beat up). If you see their troop costs, they're incredibly powerful for such a low upkeep cost, so I think Mongols are perfect as they are.

That being said... when the AI is running them, I did expect a little more umph from them.

Yeah, they are dead in my game (They were friends with me, I took everything on the eastern side but left them with some cities and what not than I moved my biggest army north, they attacked me and I just wiped them out). Egypt is too powerful, left me with a few mongels to fight with Ohh well now onto Italy.

    Vexille, good question.

When I played Poland in vanilla MTW2 they came so far as Magdeburg. They got all my main cities as : Krakow, Thorn, Halych and Vilnius. I hold ground in Smolensk, Riga and Novgorod (which I snatched from Russia). Since I got Magdeburg from Germans I thought I was safe, but I was wrong . Only thing which saved me was the Timurid invasion , they got Monglos "from behind" , if you know what I mean , hehe!
Historically Mongols did invade Europe, but in East Europe they stopped in Poland, after a huge battle when Polish forces together with Joannites, Templars and Teutonic knights fought a battle at Legnica. European army lost that battle and polish duke was killed, but Mongols were forced to withdraw ( probably because of death of Kubilai Khan in the East and they had to join his funeral ?).
Europeans encountered a new tactics : fast cavalry archers, Mongols were good with those suckers , that is very well used in MTW2, also in Stainless Steel mod.
In my opinion Mongols play a significant role in that game, they were a great threat to Europe, they tried to invade the West. Timurids on the other hand never came farther west than Damascus, so I think they should play a greater role in SS 6.0 trying to conquer Persia and Middle East.

They always die in all my games SS or Vanilla. Farthest I have seen them is... Constantinople and only once.

Sadly I have no pics - as I thought it was the norm. What was strange though, is that they bypassed HRE and came straight to me. They had their lands in Russia and Hungary - then came straight to Paris, which they captured for a short period as it had a small garrison of 1 x Spearman and 1 x milita Archer needless to say they won

I have started a new game, so will keep an eye out to see if they do the same again.

Since I mod SS myself with various "tweaks" (more mercenaries, stronger Zweihanders, different starting infrastructure, for instance) I tend to play about 150 rounds per campaign max and in 90% of all cases the mongols just die out without have a really fierce enemy. The only time they try to "extend" is during Jihads. Once I gave them an insanely king's purse of 35 000 with 150 000 starter gold, and yet they did not change their behaviour, not into 200 rounds.

They are _totally_ different than in the horror that is the Vanilla invasion and that really needs a fix.

This is a bit off topic, but will the Mongols be pagan this time in 6.0? It always bugged me that they were Islamic because in real life they certainly were not.

ai think that they shud be as much aggresive as possible that at the start when they appear start fighting any nation that encounters with all its forces
