Default Campaign Armor and weapon upgrades

Do they apply? I built the foundry and all the temples that supposedly give me higher stats but they dont seem to make a difference. The units dont get improvements. Should I even build temples and blacksmith places?

btw this is on campaign mode, custom battles is good

For the blacksmiths buildings. The city you build them in has to have iron in the region as a resource for it to take affect.

Iron for temples of the forge, the name depends on the faction, but it is Vulcan for the Romans I think.

If you are unsure if you have the iron resource in the settlement the building card should indicate if there will be a bonus when constructed.

The building card for temples has similar information (upgrades missile weapons, upgrades light weapons etc).

It would be nice in RS if they could just not allow blacksmiths, armourers, foundires to be built in cities where they are of no use.

In my first game of RS i built the things everywhere and wasted alot of cash on buildings that were useless.

This only happened as part of 1.5a.

Well, they do mean that you spend money on them......

I don't see why this is. I mean, they just transported metal from one province to another, what's wrong with that?

You are more than welcome to mod your personal copy to your own tastes.

Also note, that because you are able to recruit units anywhere all regions are technically importing iron/copper/etc because otherwise you could only recruit units in regions with one of those resources.

The blacksmith is representative of those regions where they would have direct access to iron, and be able to produce a higher quality of weapon/armour then would otherwise be able to be produced. Let's face it your not going to trade your highest quality stuff away you're going to use it yourself.

exactly. that's just where the BEST iron is mined, and thus kept for use by the locals, while the rest is traded off!

I'm not sure how efficient it was to trade ingots of iron around, when you could just BUY the weapons instead. Regardless, this will get a big overhaul in 2.0, I've certainly changed it for myself to make use of more metals. Copper gives less of a bonus than iron, for example. With only 3 levels of armor, it's hard to simulate the differences in metals, but something is better than nothing.

so what did you change? i want the same thing. oh and to people saying that the best iron would be kept local only, thats ridiculous. why would they do that if they know those weapons could help other soldiers around the empire as well. after all they fight for the same side!

But you can rotate troops through the cities that have the material and retrain them. This sort of approximates shipping something around to upgrade the units.

Because they would make more money if they kept the good iron for themselves, refined it themselves and sold it themselves.
