Easiest way to unlock civs

are there ways to unlock all the civs without having to finish campaigns?

Yes. Go to your C:\Program Files\SEGA\Medieval II Total War\data\world\maps\campaign\imperial_campaign folder. Open up descr_strat. Stick all the unlockables into the playable portion of the file. Then play.

For Kingdoms go to C:\Program Files\SEGA\Medieval II Total War\mods\the name of the campaign you wish to unlock for\data\world\maps\campaign\imperial_campaign

and open descr_strat. (I'll use the one for the Americas campaign in this example.

The file, at the top, will read:

; Custom campaign script generated by Romans Campaign Map Editor

campaign		Americas
playable
	spain
	aztecs
	mayans
	apachean
end
unlockable
	chichimeca
	tlaxcalans
	tarascans
end
nonplayable
	england
	france
	slave
end

Change it so it says:
