Does RTW remind you of sopranos/mafia
Many simillarities, and many way's you can see it.
Spqr is the boss like Tony Soprano, Scippi, Brutii, Julli are all of the main capos like Pauli, Sil, Chris. SPQR gives them orders and the family members of eah faction are the crew. Roman/italian feel to it. can't describe it better, sorry
Anyone see the similarities?

Heh, yeah it does actually. I remember also you having an older thread about this. It's good to revive the topic though. The Roman families are very Mafia-like; The Scipiones (incorrectly Scipii), the Julii, the Brutii...

I can't say since I have never seen the sopranos, but RTW doesn't make me think of the mafia in any way.

Nearly every organized state and tribe from ancient times through the middle ages and into the modern era can be analogized to a mafia organization. So it's really a moot point.

Perhaps not quite HBO's "Sopranos," but I can definitely see stronger ties with HBO's "Rome."

I don't see any similarities. All the roman factions seem to hate the senate aswell, and everyone doesn't hate Tony.

No, but I think that you can find simarilates in anything if you try hard enough. Think of the Narnia, at school we had to look at all the christian imagery in it, god, destroyed the movie for me. and the same with I am Legend, fantastic movie but our church at school also relayed it to Jesus etc etc.
My point is you can always do this, don't ruin RTW for yourself, and for everbody else for that matter like my english ruined Narnia and I am Legend for me....

I have to say not at all. Not even in the slightest, if you just look at the main values in the two things. But Rommen has a point, if you look at them in enough different ways, you can come up with some similarities.
I think CS Lewis was a very religious person, so its not surprising to me that it spilled over into his work, although I never noticed it in Narnia until the tabloids pointed it out and someone complained about it.

Doesn;t the SPQR or the boss giving you orders and you have a large family tree and such. You have the different families(SPQR, Brutii...) and you all have a leader, generals you own provinces like a certain mafia runs a neighborhood..
