    Default special hoplite units

How do you recruit special hoplite units (e.g. hoplites of tarentum) in-game? Is it only greek factions that can do this?

Also, these units don't seem to be available when I'm playing a custom battle . They don't even come under the free peoples' rosters.

Unbelievable mod btw guys...I'm going to be playing this one for a looong time yet .

yuppo, only greeks, except for Tarentine Hoplites, that can be recruited by the romans before the Marian reforms.

I thought all factions could recruit all hoplites because I can recruit Syracusians as Carthage.

As romans you can recruit the city Hoplites as long as there is an Army barracks build inside the town, and the marian reforms didn't occurred yet.

The Syracuse Hoplites are quite cool and can be recruited, as with the Tarentum hoplites, before Imperial reforms. Problem with these units, and the Republican Principe, Triarri, and Hastati are that they become redundant.

I wish it was somehow possible to recruit them even later in the game because once you have a super elite cohort of them its sad not to be able to use them for fear of not being able to replace casualties.

I love using two cohorts of triarri as flanking reinforcements for each of my named legion armies. It not only looks cool but they have that charge bonus and are great against any heavy cavalry.

I dont see why triarri should not be available to replenish all through the game. So perhaps it should not be possible to build new triarri cohorts but still able to refill a veteran unit.

Since Getae can recruit city hoplites as well (at least the Byzantine ones) probably every faction can recruit them with a certain level of barracks.

I believe with non-greek factions you need to have army barracks and with the greek factions a city barracks

I believe that any faction can recruit the city hoplites. The Getae certainly do at least, I recruited Rhodian, Corinthian and Cretan hoplites in one campaign with them.
