help! script error.

Hey guys I'm a long-time rtw player among other mods. I'm the silent lurker type, been reading the forums for years now.

I have medieval total war, rome total war, bi, and m2tw but can't run it due to my graphics card being inferior. I have played SQPR, RTR, EB, and Roma Surrectum. I just downloaded this mod today and I got this error when trying to start it up.

Script Error in chivalry/data/descr_settlement_plan.txt, at line 216, column 17.

Unable to find ambient id or building battle description: tree_A_deciduous_summer.

I installed the optional things in the chivalry folder, maybe it was one of those things? Anyways, the chivarly total war screen shows up for 5 seconds and then I get this error. Help!

Did you consider all install requirements?
The optional tree mod should be compatible without any issues, normally.

However, just delete the installed chivalry modfolder, and provide a new Chiv install and then just do not install the tree mod, is my advice.

I had this problem when I first installed Chivalry as well; it is caused by a missing file. The solution is to copy a certain file from vanilla, the problem is I can't remember what one.

Can anybody of the Chiv players confirm this?

I never heard of that issue ... if the modfolder is installed correct in the RTW directory, then there is nothing to do than to start the Chivalry with the Chiv-shortcut (contained in the modfolder), either with the RTW 1.5 or with the BI 1.6 exe. There should be not any error message, if though, then there is something wrong installed.

Also, i just added the tree mod to check it again: no issue in sight in my game, both exe's tested (RTW and BI).

I never heard about that. Strange.
It seems more like a bad installation or a faulty download. Problems like that happens sometimes if your RTW-Version is "over-modded" (means: it is no fresh installation).
Anyway... I never had this problem

Of course, RTW 1.5 (and BI 1.6) must be a vanilla version (= unmodified), i think this is no point to discuss, the install-requirements say this very clearly

I've tried uninstalling and installing it again but nothing yet. Also tried deleting the treemod but nope same thing. I'm gonna try to uninstall rome and install bi with 1.6

I was using vanilla rome patched to 1.5 as required.

I'm also gonna look around in the vanilla rome folder like caesarvincens said before I install chivalry again to see if i can find that file. It'll probably be later on tonite cause I have to go to work soon. I downloaded the file from filefront.

If you have reinstalled RTW 1.5/BI 1.6, then first check if these vanilla games play proper!
First then, install the chivalry mod folder, make sure to install the chivalry mod folder into the RTW directory ... means, you must have then in this RTW directory: one Data folder (RTW), one bi folder (BI), one chivalry folder (Chivalry).
Also, make sure your shortcuts have the correct path (ie. see once more the stickied "install issues" thread, or just the contained shortcut help/explanation).

I'm pretty sure, you made a little (?) detail wrong during the installations

Now seeing your added screenie ... i see RTW 1.3 ???

Also, your RTW directory files seem to me not proper. I recommend to uninstall the whole RTW and reinstall, and then never change/move the RTW original files, none of them, ie. i see you lack of certain files and other are not in the proper place.

Rome 1.5 starts up but I get a ctd. So I'm definetely gonna reinstall rome when I get home or tomorrow.

Of course yesterday I did have to delete the registry files in order to reinstall rome after I uninstalled it because it wasn't letting me install it. (confusing huh?)

UPDATE

Okay so I uninstalled Rome and found the problem. I had not set the download and extract destination to the desktop as it said on the install page.

I was able to play a custom battle, however, when I tried to play a campaign it wouldn't let me past the page with the faction selection shields and got a ctd. I'm gonna try to install BI 1.6 and see what happens. Also, why would it say Beta 0.95 on the main page if I downloaded 0.96?

You are one of the hard nuts, my friend

I can only say, if you read and follow all instructions then you can play Chiv in all its ways, and this proper without ctd's. In principle it is so easy:
a) Having a RTW 1.5 or BI 1.6 vanilla!, b) install Chivalry into this RTW main directory, c) providing the Chiv shortcut, d) ready to start the game!

(... did you read through the stickied "Rel/DL & Info" thread regarding installation and game-start?).

Once more, your RTW base (if RTW patched to 1.5 or BI to 1.6) must work without any issues, means it needs a RTW default installation, not any customised files, first then: install chivalry ... chivalry works on this base without any issues.
(The 0.95 ver display on the screen is mentioned in the release thread, it says "ignore this" ... 0.96 is nearly identical to 0.95 incl. the old 0.95 hotfixes).
