    Default Way difficult - tips?

I play as Spain, and my economy is not doing well. I know it costs more if you got armies and characters outside your borders, but still. Basically it is 1205 and I can't build anything or recruit any units. I have to defeat rebels and take back a settlement (Leon), with only generals, family members. I mean I have no other units. It looks kinda weird with these people running around in Spain whit no other "support troops".
Plus I had generals "picking side in a coming civil war", which made everything harder I guess (though they never rebelled).

I'm gonna take Zaragoza and then I need to somehow build up my economy. Problem is I am barely making any money. How am I suppose to do anything now?

(Also in the beginning of the game I did earn money and I did well, I build buildings and so, which I later had to destroy to get some cash, but now it seems I am screwed).

edit: Also I play 4.0. I do not have Kingdoms so as I understand it is the latest version.

    in one sentence:

    don't know about 4.0, but u should
    - build forts (1000 florins) in your countries and put the expensive troops in there -> saving you the upkeep for 2 of them - remember- your generals at full strength are the most expensive troops
-always start with the economic buildings
-look for free upkeep units in towns/castles
    -use merchants
-take a look into the additional costs during sieges/moving in foreign countries(really heavy penalties)
    -earn money first, fight second
-don't ever destroy buildings that generate/increase income (not worth it)
-get a positive cashflow for every round

as i said, i don't know if all these things apply in 4.0, but in the later versions they do.

if u wanna keep going in your campaign, check your income screen and identify the biggest burden => cut em down. most time its the army upkeep.
-get trade agreements (should be possible with every faction not in war with you) that you can reach (by land or sea)
    -use ransom *g*
-loot big enemy city and sell buildings and retreat

oh, and as a catholic faction, try to get crusades against your enemy -> no upkeep

ps: you played mtw2 before, did you ? :>

[..] you seem to like fantasy then. Also you are not much TOLERANT to put that in middle words.

also, when you attack, make sure you have enough siegemachinepower to destroy the walls or at least all doors present.

this way you do not expend the sieging money thats usually a lot. remember also to not have more than one leader at a time, and if they are at a fort they also charge you (i dont remember free upkeep on forts back in 4.0 PE, maybe im wrong) but only the amount for the upkeep of unit, not as a fielded unit. that would help.

you should build a chain of fortifications between your cities so you can jump your troops around without the army-on-the-field cost

move your merchants with boats to golden costs like america and africa

and finally (im not sure this works in 4.0 or if is a new bug) CONQUER CRACOW XD normally that city sustains like 3 DLV economies together and all other cities you use for extracash
