    Default Stats for different weapons?

There's quite a few weapons in the game beyond the obvious sword/spear/pike/javelin combination. I was wondering if there was anything like uniformity in what various things do. For example the mace (used by Illyrian Coastal Levies) and falx (used by some Thracian elites) are "effective against armour", but have all kinds of other properties too.

In the unit cards we can see what units use, but is there any kind of hard and fast rule for what different weapons do? Are spear cavalry universally better in the charge, but poorer in the press than sword cavalry, for example?

Generally, I guess it's a bit like a game of rock-paper-scissors (if you'll forgive the simplicity).

For example, like you say spear armed cavalry will charge better, whilst sword armed cavalry will have better staying power. Another example would be the infantry, with spearmen better defensivly and swordsmen better offensivly. This really is very simple though, and I'm sure there are alot of exceptions to the simplistic rules.

    the system is quite complex
first you have the hardcoded RTW stuff, for example spear units get +8 defence against cavalry and a -4 penality vs infantry (it's unclear if it's a penality to defence or attack, EB balance things with a fixed +4 bonus to attack to spear units, but I'm more inclined to believe it's a defence penality indeed), and "effective against armor" means that half of the enemy unit's armor is ignored.
Then you have EB stuff: for example the lethality values (which is basically a multiplier for melee attacks) are weapon-based: all shortsword have 0.1, 0.11 or 0.13 values (according to quality), all longswords 0.225, all spears 0.125 (underhand) or 0.13 (overhand), and so on
I suggest to download the recruitment viewer, most of the info is visualized there, and read Aradan's guide (which is meant for modding but explains a lot of things for common players as well) http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showt...ight=EDU+guide

Ah, so if you upgrade with a smithy, it improves the lethality of weapons as well as the attack value of a unit?

This is probably why he thought it would.

Anyway, this cleared up some things for me (I was puzzled as to why spearmen tended to have higher attack values than similar-priced swordsmen, but I always did use a mix of both, anyway).
    believe in nothing.
