    DECIMUS JUNIUS BRUTUS

    FOR SENIOR CONSUL!

    ---------

These being the words of Decimus Iunius Brutus, Consul of Rome.

Citizens, I declare my candidacy for my second ratification as Senior Consul. My goals are simple: I want to better the economy of the Republic, to fortify our position in the North by building up walls and garrisons, to aid the Equites by constructing ports and markets throughout the Republic and the Plebeians, giving out fertile lands and housing estates with my planned agricultural reforms.

Citizens, I have no ill intentions for the Republic. I only wish that appropriate measures are taken so that the Republic is as strongly based in western Mediterranean as possible. The welfare of the Republic is my sole intention, whatever some may say; I am no tyrant, nor a King in hiding -- I am a faithful son of the Republic as any Roman here. I have no wish to be given more powers, honours or troops. I only wish to be given the chance to achieve my afore mentioned goals for the good of the Republic.

    ----------

Vote Brutus for Senior Consul! For a Rome worthy of Rome!

    The Voice of Freedom

I Pvblivs Valerivs offer the most simple thing in this election. An honest man who seeks not to wield power for his person, but one whos wields it in the name of the Republic.

You see, the man who fights for re-election, is not a man for leading the republic through a fair senate, but one who seems bent on being a king. How must your noble ancestors look down on you with shame, for was it not they who threw off the shackles of monarchy for our people, yet you think that they can be fooled with victory against a foe even you deem inferior.

I offer you a simple promise. One you can trust. I will NOT run for re-election if I win; but will he make that promise if he wins?

OOC: It's on!! Come to my place, 10pm GMT.

    Citizens,

This man, Valerius Publicola, attacks me from simple speculation; does rerunning for the office of Consul means that I am planning to be King? Was Cinncinatus, five times Consul, or Dentatus or Camillus planning to be Kings also? According to Publicola, he who runs for a second term is keen to be a King so that must be the case for these heroes of the Republic. Publicola claims that I wish to hold power for my self; was that the case when I was on Sicily? Was that the case this term? No.

You see, fellow Citizens, these men were so scared that after defeating the Sicilians I would harvest such support that I would make myself all-powerful. Have I made any aggressive move on the Republic? No. Have I been unconstitutional? No. Have I plotted against the Senate? No. What then, being that so, gave my 'intentions' away to these Senators before you? I ask what lead these men saying in public that I am to crown myself. Have you got any proof of that? Why the Censor has not denounced me if you have even the slightest proof? Because they have nothing, Romans. That's why.

Citizens, do not be fooled. You see before you a man that wish to be Consul and is worried that I am so popular that he will lose the elections. But instead of acting as a Senator of Rome, with the proper dignity, he tries to paint me as a Tyrant in disguise, as some King that await the right time to crown himself.

I say to you now, that I would rather cut my heart out and eat it that to disgrace my name. How can you accuse a Brutus for royal ambitions, Valerius? Have you no shame? No decency?

However, I will take the challenge thrown to me by this simpleton; I promise, by my sacred oath, that I will not re-run for Senior Consul shall I win these elections. Jupiter be my witness, I will not.

OOC: I knew you were up to the challenge, wodewick! I'll come to your villa at the appointed time, no worries.

Quintus Marius Parthicus for Proconsul of Sicily

Senators and People of Rome, I, Quintus Marius Parthicus have decided to run for Proconsul for Sicily. I am continuing my ascent up the Cursus Honorum, and after being Tribune of the Plebs, and the first Praetor to do his job, I deem myself worthy of this next step as Proconsul.

My term (if I get it, which will depend on you, citizens) in Sicily will help me develop the skills and potential that will allow me to be come a strong, experienced leader for both the position of Junior Consul and Senior Consul later on in my career.

So I request that you support me now, and I will assure you that Sicily will soon become not just a Roman territory, but a Roman territory that is militarily secure, with a happy populance, and which will yield wealth in produce and money for the Rome for years to come!

come whenever, the debate has started.

But can I tell you about this man. He is popular amongst his fanatics within his party. That is the reason I am here today. I did not seek to run, but I was asked to run, and in the name of our alliance to bring a fairer Rome, I chose to do my duty and liberate the republic. So I will not appeal to the populares or the domini, but I will appeal to you optimates. This man makes a fool of you and a mockery of our Republic. If you re-elect him, you will bring shame upon your names!

"Senator, you say that I will shame the Optimates or anyone that will vote for me; why? Is it not constitutional to run for a second term? From what do you liberate Rome from? I have abided the law as any good Roman and foolish fuss as these simply a political trick of yours to limit my support base. A bad planned trick, if I may say so.

The Republic is safe and you know it. You just can't hide your will to rule and that is why you claim that I am willing to be King. And all of Rome knows it."

I don't denounce the legality of your candidacy, but the moral judgement behind it. Think of the mos maiorum and then declare your candidacy, and if the gods do not strike you down, then I shall win the election and ban any such debate ever arising again.

OOC: I will answer to this argument but keep in mind that we have not set the offices based on history nor Roman religion. So invoking the Mos Maiorum to campaign against me isn't fair. Imagine if I said that you also do not keep the mos maiorum by violating the Cursus Honorum? How on earth have you managed to be Consul by the first elections? If you continue invoking the mos maiorum against my candidacy I'm gonna use this argument, sorry.

IC: "Senator, the Gods know that my intentions are peaceful and just so I am sure that they will not take offence in this move. Also, I am abiding the law; if the law allows my second consulship, why can't I run? Why shouldn't I run, If I can and I wished it so? This whole campaign against me is based on rotten grounds. You simply wish to win the elections and that is why you denounce me."

BRING SHAME OVER OUR NAMES, FANATICS!!

    Marcus whas furius;
How come that you, a man that running for the same post as Brutus are
accuse him for having ill thoughts and plans for the future of the republic
and on the same time accuse me and my family for being FANATIC AND SHAMEFUL.

Marcus face was red as blood, he couldn´t tolerate them calling his family and friends for being false.

He screamed as high as he could, so salive where sprayed out all over the room.

"DON´T ever dare speak of my family like that again or you will be regret it the rest of our life!"

Marcus where still standing up in the curia, his face where now as red as it looked as it would explode by the presure, staring at senate Pvblivs Valerivs he slowly satled down at his seat.

If you allow him his perverse desire for power against all moral reason, than surely you are a fanatic, but remember, no-one is yet a fanatic, but if you do vote for this travesty, then so by the gods I shall label you all as such.

Marcus started to feal dizzy, the anger hade tired him out and now when he
heard the words of that treacherous man, the heart slowly started to weaken.

His eyes turned grey and his skin white, he felt some sort of helplessness for the first time in his life...then all turned black.

    Marcvs Valerivs Corvinvs

Yes, that's right Citizens, I am seeking a political office yet again. I, and the rest of the Optimates, need your help to defeat the corrupt and deceiving Populares in this year's elections. I'm attempting to become the Proconsul of Sicily, so I can demonstrate my skills to the Republic.

Many of you are displeased with my actions during my time as Senior Consul. If it was up to me, the King of Syracuse and his court would be kneeling before me in a matter of weeks. However, a certain Tribune disagreed with that. Senator Equestris, one of the men who is seeking to become Consul a second time, vetoed the motion for me to go to Sicily and crush Syracuse. Why would he do this? There are a few reasons: he was bribed by the Populares, he was trying to become Consul and lead the campaign himself, or he is a traitor to the Republic. Do NOT vote for this man; it is obvious he should be thrown from the Tarpeian Rock along with the rest of the Populist and Domini scum.

My friend and co-Optimate, Senator Brutus, is running for Consul for a second time. We all know that this is legal, but it may seem a bit...wrong and immoral. I can assure you that Senator Brutus is a firm Republican, and he only wants to do good for the Republic. He is not looking for another war...quite the opposite, actually. He wants to increase trade, lower taxes, send our soldiers home, and oversee the integration of Sicily into the Republic along with me once I'm elected as Proconsul.

All in all, vote for we Optimates:
    the protectors of the
    Republic!
