Can't apply patch 1.3, help me, I just can't figure it out

I hope anyone can spend 5 minutes helping me out...

I'm about to install and play Rome Medieval, but I have only RTW 1.0, which is copied from an earlier RTW, which I later patched to 1.5, in order to play RTR.

I explain: First I had RTW 1.0
I copied it completely.
Then patches one of them to 1.3, and 1.5 in order to install RTR (Rome Total Realism).

But the copy is still 1.0, but I can't patch to 1.3 (so also not to 1.5). When I run Installshieldwizard I can select 'modify' 'remove' and 'repair'.
I suppose it should just patch, not show those options... ('modify' does nothing by the way)

I think it has something to do with the registry, but I can't figure it out.

Please can anyone help me? I'd really appreciate it

What version of RTR did you install? If it's the mod switch version of RTR you should be able to copy the contents of the folder back into the copy folder (the one with 1.0 in it).

If you installed the full version of RTR PE then you need to uninstall everything and remove the entries from the registry and start again.

I don't know why you want to keep a clean RTW 1.0 most games use RTW 1.5 now as a base.

Also part of the problem is that as you've patched RTW to 1.5 then trying to install 1.3 probably won't be allowed as the registry shows the game as 1.5 not 1.0 or 1.2.

The RTR forums in the 'solutions to common problems' for RTR PE technical forum has a link to show how to completely remove a game from your PC.

Yes, I got RTR PE

But I don't want to have a clean RTW, I copied it before I installed RTR PE, but I forgot to patch my 'main' RTW before I copied it (get it? )


But is there a way to change the registry so I do can patch the copy (which is 1.0) to 1.3, and 1.5? Because I did something like that some time ago with an other game, to make it detectable by Xfire

So, did you use that remove option to uninstall the game? If you did, it should probably get rid of the registry key by itself. Just how exactly did you uninstall your game?

Well I fixed it myself. I removed ALL Rome Total Wars (and their mods) which I had, so I had no single trace of any RTW on my pc left.

Then reinstall it, apply patches, and then copied RTW 1.5 once. Then I installed Rome Medieval on the copy and it works

Just played 2 hours just fine

reinstalling is still my alternative but that's bit of a problem, could take some time to do so...(hint)


Is there really nothing I can change in the registry, 'cause I think it should be possible there...

to make the copied, RTW 1.0, the 'installed' RTW, (which one will be detected by Xfire) and make the RTR the 'unregistered' game (which won't be detected by Xfire for example)

I reinstalled Rome Total War, it's 1.0 now, but I still get the options 'modify' 'repair' and 'remove'...

Modify does nothing...
Remove, well seems clear...
Repair, it looks like he's installing the patch, but when I try to install 1.5 thereafter it says I need to install 1.3 first...

I check the registry and that's ok now (the newly installed RTW is in the registry now)

Please help me out!
