    Default How do I?

Hello, as my first post I'd like to introduce myself. I recently bought RTW and I am enjoying it and very addicted. However, I, like many others, hate the default Spartan skins and wish to get another. I've seen many skins for them, but I don't exactly know how to upload. This being my first time doing this and not wanting to mess this up, I looked for some tutorials, yet still don't see what I need to do. Do I need any specific programs? What exactly do I need to do?

    Thanks!
(If I put this in the wrong forum, sorry)

    Welcome to TWC..

Probably the most comprehensive guide to adding units is this one, it looks daunting at first but it's actually pretty simple once to get to grips with it..

You don't need any programs but you do need to check what your DL'ing, some units will come with UI cards, edu, dmb, entries and unit descriptions .. and some will only be models and texture files.. the very least you need are the model, texture file for the unit to work, UI cards can be made by taking a screen shot, so while great if included it's not a disaster if not.

    Good luck.

    Umm, yep.

Add -show err to the target line of your **RTW exe, then if you get an ctd you should get an err msg telling you why..

**go to your RTW short cut, right click/properties and add -show_err..

So it should look like this.

    "C:\Program Files\Activision\Rome - Total War\RomeTW.exe" -show_err

    Good luck..

Hmm, I try adding the show_err, but it's not letting me. It tells me to add the correct path and file name, it's not valid. you put it in the target box correct?

OK, i got that fixed, now there's another thing (kinda gettin' pissed here), when I back off into birdseye view it becomes the plain white phalanx... I'm sure it has to do with the CAS files or something, but I don't know what. I've gone through every step...

Welcome to the fabulous world of R:TW, Centurion.

I personally like the default Spartan skins due to the more historical look. Most people prefer the Corinthian-style helmet (as seen in the movie, "300"), but the bowl-like Pilos helmet was the type of headgear used by the Spartiates from the time of Philip II of Macedon onward.

But that's just my personal preference

You don't know the half of it...

It's probably the sprites, a unit is made up of three parts (visually) the cas (model) texture and the sprites, when you zoom out the sprites take over from the cas files, they save on performance, no sprites much lag..

    At the bottom of each units dmb enrty is the sprite line, eg;
    model_sprite 60.0, data/sprites/greek_hoplite_spartan_pylos_sprite.spr

If the unit your implementing has sprites you need to put them in the sprite folder and change the sprite line in the dmb.

If the unit you down loaded doesn't come with sprites your at the mercy of either the vanilla set (which you could edit by hand in photoshop ect)) or finding some that will work from another mod (best bet).

Or .. you could try and make a set, a bit of a chore for one unit though..
