    Default what should my command line read? (steam)

    I am getting a "failed to find steam" error when I try and load up this mod. I got the same error message when I played a different mod with a steam copy or Rome: Total war Gold. And that was fixed by changing something on the command line, is it passable to fix my error with the command line? If so, how?

    Steam is valves digital distribution method and it stores games differently to how they would normally be stored, so I think his problem is that whatever steam has done to his game, it means that the command line on the shortcuts is invalid.

    Although I have steam, I'm not sure how it has stored it, could you post a screenshot of which directory RTW is in?

    My understanding is that the problem with using steam (as it's a downloaded game) is that it isn't really compatible with patches. I guess that is because it's easier to pirate a downloaded game than one that requires the CD-ROM or DVD-ROM of the game in the drive.

    I prefer to avoid buying games that are downloaded from the internet for that reason.

    the Roma Surrectum mods command line is "C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\rome total war gold\RomeTW.exe" (I got this by right clicking on the Roma Surrectum icon and clicking propertys).

    How are you trying to launch the game, via steam or by double clicking the executable?

    I think that steam may get uppity if you don't try and launch a game through steam itself and as RS is a complete modification, then steam shouldn't be able to tell the difference between RTW and RS.

    Try to launch it via steam, and see if it a) load up and b) if it is actually the mod and not vanilla that loads, although as I said before, as it is a total modification it'll either load the mod or crash.

    I went through the same steps but I haven't been able to get the mod to run via steam. Whenever I try to launch RTW gold it crashes with an unspecified error. I added RS to the non steam games list and it didn't work either... I get the "failed to find steam error"

    Did I install the mod incorrectly? I installed RS 1.5c into C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\rome total war gold

    I have also tried adding "-nm -show_err -mod" into the launch options... no luck.

    Any ideas?

    Edit: Ok, I slept on this, and realized that the launch options had to be tailored to the mod... I simply put "RS-show_err " into the launch options and it worked. Yes, I really am that clueless when it comes to programming etc.

    I hate to bring up such an old post, but I am having the same problem here on Steam. What file do you add the command line "RS-show_err" to exactly?

    I don't use Steam myself but it must be something in Steam itself. Have a look at the various properties for the game.

    Edited: If you open up the properties for the game look in the 'general' tab. You will find an entry for 'set launch options'. If you press this another window pops up that will allow you to enter the switch. I think it may just be -show_err.

    Launch the normal game with the -show_err line in the set launch options option under the properties tab that you get from right clicking RTW.
    If you launch the normal game with installing RS right it should come up, no problems. If it doesn't come up, it probably isn't Steam's fault. As for this 'RS' line, there is no such thing as that since RS is not modfoldered. If it were, you would add -mod RS (if the folder was named RS) and it would launch RS that way.

    One time for the computer literate impaired;

    Shortcut for Rome Total war with BI mod of Roma Surrectum says;
    "C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\rome total war gold\RomeTW-BI.exe" -nm -show_err -mod

    What should it say? (please tell me EXACTLY what to replace it with, thank you)

    (to work with steam)

    Edit, through sheer stubborness I tried;
    "C:\Program Files\Steam\steam.exe" -applaunch 4760 -nm -show_err

    And that launches the total war version of the game, but I do not think it works with BI. Anyone know what the BI number is?

    I believe that you need to launch the game through Steam and not through the shortcuts.

    Also, if you post back a short while after your previous post or no-one has responded please use the 'EDIT' button to update your previous post rather than another post.

    Sorry about that.

    I was able to launch it with a shortcut from the desktop with Steam, by replacing that exact same command line above.

    However, I cannot launch the BI version. Is the Roma Surrectum BI version very different?

    I tooled around last night playing as Rome. I was hugely impressed. It seemed like a completely different game than the vanilla version for sure.

    I was instantly surrounded by VAST armies on all sides. The shrines cost huge coin, and I was totally pleased that I could add a Governer. I was surprised I couldn't create "town watch". I am sure I am going to have to play with the game more to understand how to approach play. In Vanilla basically I start aggressively conquering greece or something, so this is a welcome change to start securing Italy.
